Description: A prodigal son

A dangerous love

A deadly secret . . .

I stood back and watched his movements. Daniel had that way about him that could shut me down in an instant. . . . I kicked the gravel a couple of times and worked up my courage again. “Tell me . . . I mean . . . why did you come back? Why now, after all this time?”

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel’s dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

Wow, this book was great.  Once I started it I couldn’t put it down until I was finished.

I first saw the gorgeous cover at Book Reviews By Jess’s blog and then I read the first chapter at Bree Despain’s website.  I was hooked and then got lucky enough to win an ARC from Bree Despain!

I don’t want to ruin the mystery behind what happened between Daniel and Jude but it was a great twist.  You start to get inklings of the deep, dark secret until the full truth is slowly revealed.  I loved the chemistry between Daniel and Grace and could not help feeling sorry for Jude.  You could practically taste the agony he was in seeing Daniel return and that Grace might actually choose him over her own brother.  The best part of this book is it wrapped up nicely and leaves an opening for a sequel without leaving you totally hanging.  I would have to say this is an amazing debut book from Bree Despain!

I’m particularly excited for this book. It has just that right mix of suspense/thriller and emotion that I adore in a story. It sounds phenomenal, I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy and read it.
