Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

August 27th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

hushhush

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Description from Amazon.com: For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen – and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

I have been wanting to read this book ever since I saw the awesome cover and book blurb.  It certainly lived up to my expectations and then some.  I could not put this book down and loved the suspense Fitzpatrick builds up.  Patch was the perfect mystery guy, tall, dark, handsome and mysterious.  Going in I kept thinking I know it doesn’t look good but he has to be a good guy.  He and Nora have to end up together.  But the story keeps you wondering right up to the end.  Is he a good guy?  Is he the bad guy?  My favorite part is that his character isn’t really black and white, he’s not totally evil but he’s not an angel either.  I think that is part of what will keep the reader in suspense.

The chemistry between Nora and Patch was sizzling and even when you would want to kick Patch for being such an annoying jerk you can’t help but be attracted to him at the same time.  This was a wonderful debut story by Becca Fitzpatrick that will keep you turning the pages until the very end.  You will be kept in suspense and I certainly didn’t see the ending coming.

Oh good. I have the ARC and have been looking forward to reading it. Sounds like I might have to ignore a few other books and get to this one soon.

Your ‘is he a good guy/bad guy’ reminds me of In the Woods by Tana French – did you read that? I’m seeing Hush, hush EVERYWHERE!

I loved this book. I’ve been gushing all over it on Twitter. It’s up in my top three just behind Hunger Games and Catching Fire at the moment. I love me some bad boys and Patch certainly fit that bill to a T. I thought Fitzpatrick did a great job with the characterization as well as the story. I was pretty unsure who was good and bad throughout.

    Lori-glad you are enjoying it.
Serena-it was good. Probably not one of my favorites but still good.
    Sarah-Isn’t the cover great!
Michelle-Wow, I didn’t rank it with HG and CF but still good. I do love Patch. I like when the author keeps you guessing who will be good and who really is bad.
