10 Books To Read Before You Die

Pam at Bookalicio.us is hosting this meme and I thought it might to be interesting to see what books popped into my mind.  Here is what I came up with.  Mosey on along to her blog to see what others thought.  A little background on what you will and will not see on my list.  I’m not a big non-fiction reader so I know there are great non-fiction books out there but I don’t have any on my list.  I am a little ashamed as well at how few classics I’ve read other than what was assigned during school.  Some of these are awesome childrens or young adult books that I think all children or teens should read.

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

2. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

3. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

4. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

5. A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle

6. The Eight by Katherine Neville

7. The Black Stallion by Walter Farley

8. The Odyssey by Homer

9. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

10. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Grr, I only have 4 out of the ten already read. I need to get those books!

Thanks for the list. I like the variety. 🙂

LOL. Which 4 did you read? I tried to add variety but it was so hard not to fill it with YA books 🙂 I should do a separate YA list.

Great choices, Debbie. “Pride & Prejudice” is my favorite book so I would highly recommend that one. I read “The Outsiders” in high school as required reading and I remember enjoying it. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” you will enjoy, I think.
Wow, Homer’s “Odyssey” is a very ambitious undertaking!

  4. dsuzuki

LOL. I only read Odyssey because of school but I remember really enjoying it.

I don’t know if I could do this. I can’t even answer the question “What’s your favorite book?”, let alone give a top 10 list!

Forgot to mention I’ve read 6 out of the 10, but do have Vampire Academy in my to read pile.

    1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ~Read it too many times to count. Best Austen novel in my opinion.

    2. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins ~Seriously want to buy it and read it. It’s on my next round of bookstore buys

    3. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton ~nope

    4. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld ~got to about page 75 and set it aside because I got Shiver in my mail and I really wanted to read it. I will go back to it when I am done.

    5. A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle ~Read it…need to re-read. I can’t remember what happens!

    6. The Eight by Katherine Neville ~Never heard of it….will have to look it up..

    7. The Black Stallion by Walter Farley ~Own several versions…LOVE it!

    8. The Odyssey by Homer ~Read it in AP English in high school….remember it? Not really.

    9. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ~Still at the book store waiting to be read

    10. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis ~read it several times and own it

Good list. I’m always interested to know what books others put up on a list like this!

Vampire Academy is that good, huh? I have been putting off reading it because I wasn’t sure what I would think, but if it is in your top 10 then I guess I’ll have to give it a try.

  10. dsuzuki

It’s one of my favorite series right now!

  11. Pam

I have read some of these some now. Believe it or not I read Homer haha but not a wrinkle in time!

Thanks for checking out my list. Your list is great, too!

This is a good list – I’d maybe add Little Women, one of the books I adored as a kid.

This meme is such a good idea but it is going to add books to my wish list like crazy! Thankfully I have read like all of your ten!

I should make my own list, but I will have to think about it a bit.
