I give this book 4 out of 5 stars

Description from Amazon.com: There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Despite being somewhat predictable I still enjoyed this book.  Instead of being set in the rich prep school it takes place in a reformatory school but other than that there is Luce who has been sent there after the mysterious death of the boy she had been kissing.  Then there is Daniel the extremely good looking boy at school who Luce feels an immediate attraction to but she is warned away from him by both himself and others.   Pretty much your typical teen paranormal romance.   What I did enjoy were the interesting characters in the school.  Luce is befriended by a girl who just does not quite seem balanced as well as a suspiciously normal girl with access to the schools student records.  Towards the end of the book you begin to find out the true identities of everyone at the school and while I had guessed some there were a few surprises.

At the end of the book I felt there were still quite a few holes in the story and unanswered questions but it does appear to be book 1 in a series so I am hoping these questions will be answered and the myths behind fallen angels will be developed more fully.

Guess we’ll have to keep following the series!

    Great review 🙂

I’ve been reading a lot of mixed reviews for Fallen, that means I have to read it myself to find out which of the reviewers I’m siding with 😉

    Thanks everyone.
Ladybug-yes, I read mixed reviews as well so was hesitant to pick it up but really for a book 1 in a series it was more enjoyable than I expected. I think there was a nice mix of setup for the entire series and enough going on to actually make this book interesting.

This book always sounds so interesting to me and I keep getting it as a suggestion on my Amazon account. It’s one of those ones that I almost always buy and then never do. I had decided last night not to buy it based on a review I read and then you come with a 4 star post! I know we have similar reading tastes so now I guess it is back in my TBR. Thanks for the review.

Pam-I’ve only read a few of the negative reviews since I didn’t want to color my opinion before I reviewed it but I know one said they didn’t like the holes in the story and how things could have been more fully developed. I think what people need to keep in mind is this is just book 1 and I think if everything was fully explained the book would have been too long and boring. I like having a mixture of action and explanation. So yes there were holes and yes it was pretty formulaic but it’s a formula I tend to enjoy and I am keeping an open mind.

I have seen mixed reviews of this book but have to say I really enjoyed it. But I also take it at face value…it’s intended to entertain and not change the world 🙂

Sure, were there plot and characterization issues? Absolutely but honestly, most books have that in some capacity. I don’t think this one is particularly unique in that way. I still need to write my review but I liked it for the most part and am interested to see how book two shakes out in with the two boys potentially fighting over Luce.

    I agree!!!

I still have many questions…. a bit too much to consider it at an okay level for the “cliffhanger” effect. There was not enough history on Luce and Daniels history and not enough info on Fallen Angels….well, I have many questions.

However, I love love love the location of the story… a total twist. I love the characters and was crying when Penn died.

I would also give the book the same rating but I really hope Lauren Kate clean up the story and ties up loose end in the next book….. which BTW I am anticipating!!!=)

Oh… and how did you like the Epilogue!!! Something BIG is coming!!

I cannot wait for the sequel! I kind of liked that it left questions unanswered (as long as she gets to it in book 2). At least then it feels like there should be a sequel. I thought Hush, Hush was a good read but it wrapped up nicely enough that I was surprised there is going to be a sequel.
