I give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars

This book was disturbing and has some what of a plot twist at the end that I guessed at about halfway through the book but still it was a gripping tale that had me to the end.  Cara has a huge crush on Ethan, one of the most popular guys in school but unfortunately he is dating Alexis, an obnoxious girl who picks on Cara after she ends up choking on a carrot. Alexis and her friends start making fun of Cara and calling her Choker.  Just when Cara thinks she can’t handle the misery any more her child hood best friend, Zoe, shows up saying she’s run away from home and wants to hide out in Cara’s room.

Once Zoe arrives Cara starts to feel more self confident and even manages to snag Ethan’s attention.  But she knows that with Alexis still around she will never have a chance at him.  Then mysteriously first Alexis’s best friend drowns in a pool and then Alexis disappears.  Cara begins to worry that Zoe is responsible for what happened to both girls.  So the question is whether Zoe is a murderer or if it is someone else.

Zoe was an amazingly freaky character.   Some of the things she would do and say actually gave me the chills and you want to keep flipping the pages to find out what happens next.  I had to sympathize with Cara after the choking incident.  I know we all (or at least I have) had a super embarrassing thing happen to us in front of a huge crowd and are sure we will never live it down so I felt sorry for Cara when Alexis and her best friend won’t let it go and start ridiculing Cara in front of everyone.  This does bring me to one of the minor points that did bother me about the story though.  Right before Alexis’s disappearance she confronts Cara at a party and humiliates her in front of everyone there.  Yet during the investigation Cara tells the police she didn’t speak to Alexis at the party and apparently no one mentions the confrontation to the police.  Strange?  I think so, you would think if they are looking for a motive that would pop up as high on the list.

Even though I saw the twist coming at the end it was still chilling to read and definitely made the book.  It really makes you wonder what goes on in the mind of killers.

Nice review 🙂 I think Choker sounds like a good read.

I’ve picked this one up for review and I have to say that I’ve been on the fence about reading it. I suspect I will at some point but there hasn’t been widespread love for it yet.
