What’s New?

February 26th, 2011 by Debbie's World of Books

Soooo, I’m sure you all noticed that I have a new look! (Or at least my blog does.)  The new theme is from The Pixelista and I am so excited about it.  What do you think?

The other new thing I found this week was a wonderful sounding organization is Project Night Night.

What is Project Night Night?

Here is some information from their website:

Project Night Night donates over 25,000 Night Night Packages each year, free of charge, to
homeless children who need our childhood essentials to feel secure, cozy, ready to learn, and
significant.  Each Night Night Package contains a new security blanket, an age-appropriate
children’s book, and a stuffed animal — all nestled inside of a new canvas tote bag.  By providing
objects of reliable comfort, Project Night Night  reduces trauma and advances the emotional and
cognitive well-being of the children we serve.

Every child who receives one of our Night Night Packages leaves the shelter owning a book which
encourages reading and family bonding, a security blanket which can be cuddled, and a stuffed
animal which can become a cherished friend.  We have one objective – to deliver our Night Night
Packages to every homeless child in the country who needs one.

My three year old loves to read and we read together every day.  So this organization really touches my heart because it makes me sad that there are children out there who may not have the chance to sit down with their mom or dad and just enjoy a great story. I missed the last event my company organized to put together some bags to donate but I saw the finished product and they were so adorable.

How Can you Help?

They have so many ways that you can help out. You can:

  • Order the totes for $3.50 and fill them up yourself and take them to your local shelter.
  • You can donate funds or sponsor a bag for $20
  • Donate items. They need books for infants to pre-teens, new baby blankets and stuffed animals.

I really would like to try and organize an event locally to put together some bags so if you are in the Bay Area, California and interested in participating let me know.  If you are located elsewhere I hope you will consider donating to this great cause.
