Summary from Goodreads.com: In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret bound of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant to Rhage’s protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves…

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is one of those that everyone I know raves about in almost a cult fashion so it’s been on my to read list for years.  I finally read the first book Dark Lover and had to say I wasn’t all that impressed.  With all the buzz about the new book coming out I finally decided to give it another try and I loved Lover Eternal!

I couldn’t get enough of Rhage and I loved that although he was a man who has women tripping over their own feet as they drool over him he was still attracted to Mary for who she was.  Besides apparently being totally hot I also loved watching him interact with the rest of the brotherhood.  The banter between them all cracked me up and left me wanting to find out each brother’s story.

Mary was a refreshing character in that she wasn’t beautiful or even one of those women who thinks she’s plain when she’s really stunning (one of my pet peeves).  She has a heart of gold though I did feel bad for Rhage at times for being beaten down by her sometimes because she can’t believe he would really want her.  The chemistry between the two was steamy and will have you fanning yourself.

I have to admit the whole deal with the Lessers so far hasn’t really caught my attention yet but after reading Lover Eternal I definitely want to continue this series and am already aching to get my hands on Lover Awakened.
