Summary from Goodreads.com: Peyton Lockhart and her sisters have inherited Bishop’s Cove, a small, luxurious oceanfront resort, but it comes with a condition: The girls must run the resort for one year and show a profit—only then will they own it.

A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic. Out of work and in a bad place personally, a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful.

There are countless challenges and too many people who want to stop the sisters from succeeding. Among them are Peyton’s contentious cousins, who are outraged that they didn’t inherit the resort, as well as a powerful group of land developers who have been eyeing the coveted beachfront property.

It’s soon apparent to Peyton that their efforts are being sabotaged, but she refuses to let the threats scare her—until she’s nearly killed. She calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help. He saved her life once; he can do it again.
Julie’s previous two titles, The Ideal Man and Sweet Talk, both debuted at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Julie Garwood is one of my favorite romance authors and I have read pretty much every book she has released.  Her historical books have been my favorites and I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of her early contemporary books.  However, she has totally turned my opinion around with her last few Buchanan books.  I seriously love them and Hotshot is no exception.  Garwood’s trademark humor and her amazing ability to blend just the right amounts of romance and suspense makes Hotshot a sizzling, addictive read!

I know many of us have felt like we have had the job from hell but truly Peyton takes the cake.  I felt bad laughing but as Peyton lays out her past bad luck with men you have to wonder if she ticked off the god of love or something.  I do love her character though.  She’s smart, a little naïve and while she is strong enough to make her own decisions I liked that she wasn’t stupidly independent and knew when to accept help.  I have to admit one of my pet peeves are those “strong” heroines who make stupid choices just because they don’t want to rely on a man or do what a man tells them to do.  I think part of being smart is taking good advice or making the smart choice in spite of it coming from someone else.

Whenever she and Finn are together the temperature definitely rises and they make the perfect couple.  Finn is pretty much the perfect, studly hero.  It would almost be irritating how perfect he is except that Garwood pokes humor at this fact having Peyton nickname him hotshot.  Peyton has to joke about how Finn ends up succeeding at just about everything he does.

The supporting characters in particular the resort manager, Christopher, and the irritating as hell and totally clueless cousin, Debi, were perfect additions to the story.  I loved Christopher and would love to learn more about him.   As far as villains go, Eileen and Drew were pretty one-dimensional but surprisingly that didn’t bother me much.  I was too interested in watching the interplay between Finn and Peyton and Christopher and Peyton’s sister, Lucy.  Debi on the other hand cracked me up with how much of a shrew she was and it was amusing watching all of the antics she threw out there.

Besides the flat villains the other niggling thing that bothered me and prevented me from giving this a full 5 stars was Finn’s reoccurring nightmare.  It would have been nice to have more background into how that developed.  Finn even mentions that he’s seen other ugly crimes so I never really got why this one caused these nightmares and what purpose they served.  It just seemed randomly thrown in to show that Finn isn’t perfect and there is something Peyton can tame in him.

Still this is another thrilling, hot read from Julie Garwood that is a must have on your bookshelf.
