Summary from Goodreads.com: A cop’s craving to know more about the woman next door could prove fatal in the steamy new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster.

As the person responsible for taking down a brutal human trafficker, Alice Appleton fears retaliation at every turn. No one knows about her past, which is exactly how she prefers it…until the sexy cop next door comes knocking.

Detective Reese Bareden thinks he knows what makes women tick, but his ever-elusive neighbor keeps him guessing like no other. Is his goal to unmask Alice’s secrets? Or protect her from a dangerous new threat? One thing is certain: their chemistry is a time bomb waiting to explode. And with no one to trust but each other, Reese and Alice are soon drawn into a deadly maze of corruption, intrigue and desire-and into the line of fire….

It’s been over a year since I’ve read a Lori Foster book for some reason.  I loved the Men Who Walked the Edge of Honor series but got sidetracked after reading the 4 books I went on a YA book binge and am only recently getting back into my romance mojo.  I picked this one up because I remembered Alice and wanted to see her get her HEA.  I didn’t realize it was the second book in the Love Undercover series so I was a little lost not having Logan’s story but I still really enjoyed this one.  As a side note I did have to go back and look up Run the Risk and remembered looking at it but was turned off by the cover which really proves you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

I really liked Alice though she an odd duck to say the least.  She has this uncanny ability to read other people but she is also really naive as to the effect of what she says has on others.  It was kind of odd and yet endearing and amusing.  I especially love how she referred to Rowdy as a girlfriend and everyone’s jaw drops.  She is also an intriguing mixture of vulnerable and a backbone of steel when it comes to doing what she thinks is right.

Reese was a total sweetheart, who is protective of those around him.  He took in an abandoned and abused dog which of course endears him to me immediately.  But I have to say that Rowdy actually stole the show from Reese for me.  His humor and his protectiveness of his sister and Alice made me fall in love with him.

The overall story was an interesting read and though it started off a little slow for me once I got into it I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

The supporting characters of Reese’s lieutenant and Logan’s brother both are intriguing so I can’t wait to read their story.  Lori Foster is an amazing must read author for all romance lovers.
