About the book:

With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…

Danger has never looked quite so delicious…

My review:

I have a confession that I passed over this book a couple times because the cover turned me off (I know, I know, don’t judge a book by its cover) but Rebecca Zanetti’s name caught my attention enough to read the blurb which sounded intriguing.

I had to mull over this book for a few days before writing this review because I wasn’t really sure how I felt. It took me a long time to get into it and there were a couple times I thought I was going to stop. Both Jax and Lynn left a bad taste in my mouth in the beginning. There’s the alpha male and then there’s the alpha male who is just a jerk. That would not have bothered me as much if Lynn didn’t lap it up. At one point Jax actually beats her on the butt with a belt in anger, is unapologetic about it and though Lynn gets angry at him she still falls for him. What kept me reading was the supporting characters. Jax’s team is great and each member served a part in making Jax a more likeable character (or at least better understood character) as the story moved on.

At around 50% the story line picked up enough to capture my interest and I started to like Jax and Lynn more so. By the end the book somewhat redeemed itself enough that I was glad I finished it. I wasn’t sure I would continue the series EXCEPT that it looks like we get Raze’s story next and he was my favorite character and the teaser chapter hooked me. So I’ll be keeping an eye out for that one!
