Should Palin's family issues matter?

September 2nd, 2008 by Debbie's World of Books

On my mother’s bulletin board there is a discussion going on whether or not Palin makes a good VP candidate.  I was surprised that instead of debating how Palin stands on issues most of them were arguing if she should be running for VP since she has 5 kids, one of which (the youngest) has Downs syndrome.   On that issue I feel it’s a personal choice for her to make.  If she feels she can handle being a VP and do a good job while still being a good mother than more power to her.  Or maybe her career is more important to her?  I don’t know and I don’t think it’s fair to judge.

Then to add to the fire came the announcement about her 17 year old daughter being pregnant.  One woman on my board said she thought it was wrong to run for VP knowing that her daughter was pregnant and most likely was going to be in the spotlight because of her pregnancy.

Honestly would there be as much debate if Palin were a man?

So far (and this is based mainly just on what I have read in the news) I don’t care for Palin as a VP candidate because:

1. She supports off shore drilling in the wildlife refuge

2. Her husband works for BP and so basically gets money from the oil industry

3. She’s under investigation for firing a public safety commissioner who wouldn’t fire the man divorcing her sister.

4. This is something I just read and don’t know more details but she supports abstinence as the only form of sex education?  That just seems stupid.

Anyway, I was a Clinton supporter and Obama just gets on my nerves but with Palin on the ticket I can’t support McCain either.  Decisions….decisions.
