No Choice But Seduction by Johanna Lindsey

October 26th, 2008 by Debbie's World of Books

Another book in the Mallory series which I love and this one was just as fun.

Rating: 4 stars

It tells the story of Boyd Anderson, one of Georgina’s brthers, and Katey Tyler, a women who decides to travel the world after both her father and mother died.  Katey first meets Boyd while a passenger on his ship from America to England.  Once in England she ends up in the middle of a plot to kidnap Anthony Mallory’s daughter, Judith, which brings her back into contact with Boyd.  Among some other adventures and seeking out the family that had disowned her mother she falls in love with Boyd.

Stop reading here if you don’t want any spoilers.

So while I enjoyed this book it seemed to move really fast and it seemed like without that much interaction with each other Boyd and Katey fall in love.  It’s been awhile since I read a Mallory family book but the previous ones to me seemed to focus mostly on the growing relationship between the couples.  This one squeezed in a lot of sub plots like the return of Roslyn’s cousin Georgie, whose half brained wife kidnaps Roslyn and Anthony’s daughter to hold for randsom.  Katey rescues her but in the mean time Boyd ends up accusing her of being the kidnapper.

Then we follow the story of Katey knowing that her mother’s parents disowned her mother when she fell in love with an American.  She is torn if she wants to visit this family.  Once she does decide to she is shocked that her aunt throws her out of the house calling her a bastard.

Later Anthony Mallory finds out he is actually Katey’s father.  When he was younger he had fallen for Katey’s mother and did not know he had gotten her pregnant.  Afraid of what to do she turns to her older sister who convinces her Anthony was toying with her and goes to their father.  Their father ends up imprisoning her and telling her once the baby is born they will give the baby away.  This forces Katey’s mother to run away in order to keep her child.  That’s how she ends up in America.

Then there is another little sub-plot about Katey’s sister falling in love with Jason Mallory and since he never returned that love she becomes bitter towards the entire Mallory family.  This was partially the reason she convinces her sister that Anthony was a cad who just toyed with her.

With all of this excitement going on it’s hard to believe that Boyd and Katey had time to even fall in love.  But of course it happens and it was a fun read.
