Kindle first impressions

November 4th, 2008 by Debbie's World of Books

I got my Kindle yesterday!  I am so excited.  I didn’t have much time to charge it before I had to leave work so I just read a sample of a book on my way home.  Going home the sun was setting so I was getting a pretty bad glare since the sun was coming from behind me.

I read it for about an hour coming into work today and it was great!  It didn’t bother my eyes at all and I’m normally one of those that gets sick reading a computer screen if I’m in a car or any other moving vehicle.  It doesn’t even look like a computer screen.  I was impressed by this electronic ink technology.

So far I haven’t had the problem I read about people complaining on the location of the Next Page button.  I hold it in my left hand and both the Previous and Next page buttons are there so it’s easy to navigate.  The Next page button is also on the right hand side of the Kindle and that one is a little more awkward since it takes up almost the entire right side so you do have a higher chance of hitting it when taking the Kindle out of the dover.  I haven’t had a problem though since I’ve either had it on sleep mode or turned off when I’m not using it.

It’s also a lot lighter than most of the books I’ve been reading so that saves on some weight in my laptop bag during the commute and walk to the office.

Someone sent me the link to leaked Kindle 2.0 info and from what they say in the article I’m glad I have the 1.0 version.  I like the scroll wheel and don’t usually care for joy sticks.  Like I mention above I don’t have a problem with the buttons on the left hand side.  I don’t know how it would be if they make them smaller.  I also don’t have a problem with the size so not sure why they are making it bigger.
