You Had Me At Goodbye by Tracey Bateman

November 20th, 2008 by Debbie's World of Books

I enjoyed this book and would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This book was pretty predictable but I enjoyed reading it.  It was pretty much your standard chick lit fare.  Dancy Ames is an editor at Lane Publishing and has her dream job taken by her brother’s best friend, Jack Quinn.  Then to top it off she gets laid off.  She’s trying to figure out what to do with her life.  She’s writing a book that she’s afraid to try and get published, she’s also helping out a friend at his coffee shop and she finds out that she has a half brother that her parents never told her about.

Stop here if you don’t want spoilers.

Jack keeps flirting with Dancy but she has a hard time moving past the fact that he got hte job she wanted and then let her be fired.  Eventually Dancy understands that there was nothing Jack could have done to help save her job.  She eventually ends up doing a freelance project for Jack editing the latest novel in her favorite author’s series.  In the end she finds out that Jack is actually her favorite author and he was using a pen name to write.  I saw this coming way ahead of time.  They of course end up happily ever after.

She also ends up taking her half brother when her dad and mom totally flake on taking care of him.  So they end up happily together as well.
