Frostbite by Richelle Mead

frostbite

I give this one 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Description: In this book Rose is still trying to deal with her feelings for Dmitri and adjust to Lissa’s new relationship with Christian.  Then a Strigoi attack on a royal Moroi family puts the school on high alert and the Moroi community debates canceling their Christmas visits.  An alternative solution is offered where all Moroi and the Academy students are invited to come to a very exclusive Moroi ski resort.   To add further complication Rose doesn’t know how to deal with Mason’s growing attraction to her, another Moroi royal shows up competing for Dmitri’s affection, Rose meets another Moroi prince who everyone tells her is trouble and her wayward mother shows up.  What’s a girl to do?

I loved this book.  I thought the first one was great and was glad the second did not disappoint.  I’m still hoping that Rose and Dmitri can find a way to be together.  Christian is growing on me and we even see a softer side of Mia.  I’m debating but I might actually be enjoying this series more so than the Twilight series.  It might be because I don’t have the irritant of Jacob Black’s character.  He just bothered me in the Twilight books.  We start to see a little bit more of Dmitri’s background and see him acting a little more human.  I thought the addition of the royal, Adrian, was an interesting twist and am anxious to see where they take things.

Stop here if you don’t want any spoilers.

I’m glad Rose and her mom sort of smoothed things out between the two of them and that Dmitri decided to stay at the academy even if he cannot be with Rose.  It sucked that Mason was killed but I’m glad to see that Mia might actually see some happiness or at least not so much bitterness.  It looks to me like Rose is somehow absorbing Lissa’s dark side so it will be interesting to see what happens with that in the next book.  I love this series so far and was torn when I heard there was a fourth book.  I want to know what happens but I know I will also be bummed once I’m done with the series.

This is such a popular series! I know what you mean about hoping the second book is as good, if not better, than the first. :) Great review!

Now you have to read Shadow Kiss, so you’ll see what we did not spoil when discussing it on BBC :)

LOL. I finished it but haven’t had a chance to post about it yet! I’m sooooo upset with how it ended. I need the next book now :)

My sister just got me the second and third books in this series (so we’re caught up for the 4th and also because I’m keeping up on the Morganville Vampires series and House of Night series). I admit the premise makes me squee a bit more then Twilight’s did. Kind of like Vampire Knight just without the twisted incest it seems.

The 4th book, Blood Promise is due out late this year and the last/5th book is due in 2010 so we won’t know the end of the series till then. Can’t wait for a beautiful box set to come out LoL

I know! I was dying when I heard we have to wait to 2010 for the last book. :(
