Amazon ready to announce the Kindle 2.0?

February 2nd, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

The San Jose Mercury News had an article today that says Amazon sent out invitations to a news event scheduled for Feb. 9.  The last time this happened was to announce the Kindle.    There are rumors the 2.0 version will have a color screen, better battery life and some of the buttons have been relocated.

interesting… you have a Kindle right? My husband mentioned that I should look into getting something like that. I’m just not sure I can give up ‘real’ books, even though it seems like it would be really convenient….

I do have one and really like it but since I have so many un-read books at home I’ve been limiting the number of new books I can buy. I do love it for my commute since I’m already lugging my breakfast, lunch and laptop so it’s easier to carry the Kindle then a couple of books. It’s great if you have a hard time making it to the book store since you can browse, buy and have it downloaded in less than a minute.

I am really excited I have been putting off buying a Kindle because of the 2.0 rumors. I can’t wait until Feb 9th.

I still am not convinced about Kindle. I love reading physical, actual books. And I have iPod Touch and they have great books to dowload as well.

I love reading physical books as well but there are certain situations where the Kindle is just more convenient. I still read a majority of my books in the traditional format. I never tried an IPod Touch but someone I met loves reading her books on her PDA.

I think it is…and I’ve been waiting for it too. The features had better be what I am looking for though such as able to read PDFs or I’m not buying.

Yeah, it would be nice if it could read PDFs although I just exported one of my PDF books into text and copied it to my Kindle. That worked fine.

I have about a dozen “classics” on my iphone that are quite readable. The app that’s featured on the tv commercial actually works while I’m on the elliptical–a quick swipe across the screen and I’m on the next page. Trouble is that the new books selection is extremely limited as compared to the Kindle, although Twilight is available. I’m still eyeing a Kindle, but may wait and see what’s to come.

I heard it’s going to be thinner as well.
