When reading do you read every word? Do you ever skip chapters or skim over parts? (question curtesy of Wendy)

This really varies depending on what I am reading.  If it’s something I am really into I might skim just to see what happens and then I re-read it a second time more closely.  However, there are some books which bore me to death and I am really tempted to give up on them.  For these books I will skim over parts just so I can get to the end since I hate not finishing a book.  So far I have not actually skipped entire chapters though.

I’m the same way. If something is boring, I’ll skim through.

    Have a great week!

If I’m skimming and skipping, its time to move on to another book!

I skim sometimes — esp. when I want to give up on book but I still want to know what happens.

If I am bored I usually just put the book down and move onto another one, but if I am curious enough to want to know what happens I will sometimes just flip to the end and see.

I skim a little, mostly when I was reading for school. but now that i am just reading what I want I find myself doing a lot less skimming and definitely no skipping!

That is what I do too. If a book is boring, but I want to find out what happens, I skim it. My answer is up now.

I hate not finishing books also. But I’ve gotten to the point where I feel my time is more important to waste on something forgettable. But the few times I haven’t finished I’m left wondering…did it get better? :)

Cheryl. LOL. I think it’s that wondering that keeps me going. There have been several books recently that got good about half way through so it would have sucked to have given up. Then again there would those that I had to trudge through to the end and it still bored me to tears :)
