What is your policy when it comes to new authors? Do you feel comfortable purchasing a book or do you prefer to borrow new authors from the library? How often do you ‘try out’ a new author?

For the most part I have no problem buying a book by a new author as long as it’s not a hard back and is not excessively expensive.   If it is a hard back book then I will go borrow it from the library first.  As to how often I “try out” a new author I’ve found that almost all of the authors I have read lately have been new authors.  Ever since I started to blog and blog hopping book blogs I’ve found so many new authors to read that I honestly cannot keep up.  I have to say I am glad I found this whole new world because some of the authors I found have been great (Scott Westerfeld, Richelle Mead and Suzanne Collins to name a few).

Most of what I read is new authors too. Theres too many good books out there to stick to known authors!

I try to do a mix between old and new. If I like an author, I’m interested in reading more by him or her.

I also read a lot of new authors. They can bring a fresh approach to an older subject matter which makes for a great read! Hillary Jordan (Mudbound) is one of my favorite newbies.

My book blogging experience has been similar to yours — it has opened me up to so many new authors and even genres! And I like your “wait for the paperback or softcover” approach!

I definitely have some favorite authors that I always pick up their new books but there usually is a lag where none of them has a new book out for me to read. So I am glad to find new authors.

Discovering new authors and great, unknown to me, books is a great benefit of reading book blogs…and terrible because it has led me to buy so many books…lol
