The Vampire Diaries The Return: Nightfall

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Description: Elena Gilbert is alive—again.

When Elena sacrificed herself to save the two vampire brothers who love her—the handsome, brooding Stefan and the sleek and dangerous Damon—she was consigned to a fate beyond death. Until a powerful supernatural force pulled her back.

Now Elena is not just human. She has powers and gifts that were bestowed on her in the afterlife. What’s more, her blood pulses with an overwhelming and unique force that makes her irresistible to any vampire.

Stefan wants to find a way to keep Elena safe so that they can make a life together. Damon, however, is driven by an insatiable desire for power, and wants Elena to rule as his princess. When Stefan is lured away from Fell’s Church, Damon seizes his chance to convince her that he is the brother she is meant to be with. . . .

But a darkness is infiltrating the town, and Damon, always the hunter, is now the hunted; he becomes the prey of a malevolent creature that can possess him at will, and who desires not just Elena’s blood but her death.

I can’t believe after this many years another book finally came out in the Vampire Diaries series.  Boy was this on a totally different level.  First off it was almost 600 pages long.  I guess following the trend of YA books getting longer.  The story also read for an older audience than the original books.  It was a little darker and there was more depth to the characters.  Stefan actually isn’t in this book very much and you get to take a deeper look into the man Damon is.  I really enjoyed that aspect and seeing beyond the shallow, I hate Stefan and I’m a bad ass vampire, persona.  I did not realize that this book apparently is starting a new story and will have at least a sequel if not becoming a new trilogy.  So you are left at a bit of a cliffhanger.  I would say give this one a try even if the first four books felt too young for you.

This sounds good! I haven’t read any of this series but it sounds like I might even be able to read this one without them.

You always have such good recommendations and reviews. I left you an award here

If you have time the first four books help you understand the characters more but they are less fleshed out. I loved them when I was younger though. Thanks!

And have u got an e-copy for the “Nightfall”.

I read somewhere that Damon and Bonnie get together , is it true ? I so want them to be together …..

  4. dsuzuki

Yes, in the fourth book Elena comes back as a regular human being. No ecopy. I went out and bought the hard back book. LOL. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but you do see some chemistry going on between the two of them.

awwwwwwwwww c’monnnnnnnnn …………. i’m dying … i want to finish this other book before i read the nightfall !! i soooo want damon and bonnie to be together … they seem more perfect then elena and stefan !! btw love your site!!

Thanks! LOL. Ok, but anyone else don’t read this!

They don’t really. They sort of starting heading down that road when of course evil forces intervene. It’s really a complicated story so you need to read the book for the details. I was bummed as I liked the two of them together.

I loved NightFall!!!! I absolutely can’t wait for the next 2 books in the Return trilogy, I’m rooting for a Damon/Bonnie hook up too. Did you know that there is a short story on L.J.S.’s site about an untold tale of how Bonnie and Damon first met? It’s called Bonnie and Damon after hours and it can be found at ljanesmith.net in the stories section of the site.

Anna-I didn’t know about the short story. Thanks for mentioned it!

I’ve heard people asking if Damon and Bonnie are going to fall in love and I’m pretty sure its true because I was reading the book and while Damon was saving her he started to noticed things about her that he adored.

    OH !! i’m sooooo excited !!!! yayaya ….

I’m totally agreeing (and hoping) with you Anita!!! That was like pretty much my fave scene in the whole book! But I’m shutting up, so as not to spoil it for anyone! I think you’ll really like that bonnie/Damon story. It had me in serious bliss!

Bonnie and Damon would make such a cute couple but I would feel bad if Matt ends up with no one. I think Bonnie needs a little bad boy though. I think she and Matt would be boring together.

  13. Anna W.

I totally agree dsuzuki, ! and maybe Matt needs a little bad girl himself….what if…naaa, well shoot, i might as well say it, what if matt (mr. gentleman) himself fell for and married Caroline??? and bonnie got Damon, Elena with stefan of course, and Meredith with Alaric, or maybe meredith and Matt if her an Alaric split bcuz of the whole long distance thing. I mean i knooow Caroline was like super bad, but wat if she finally came around for good and ended up with matt, so he wouldn’t end up alone??? what do you guys think? and if not caroline..who do you think would make a good match 4 him???

  14. dsuzuki

Hmm…I can’t see Matt and Caroline together. Even if she does come to regret her actions she still seems too superficial for him. I can’t think of any current characters I can picture him with. Maybe a hot, female vampire needs to show up for him :) Or isn’t Tyler’s family were wolves? Maybe a long lost sister who falls for Matt? :-p

  15. Anna W.

That wooouuulllddd be a good idea if there was a wolf or new vampire, but it would have to be like another version of Stefan, I think Matt really deserves someone who’s super good and sweet natured, I mean really Bonnie fits the bill perfectly, but I can’t help but try to save her for Damon in my mind because she seems like a good person to help bring about the good in him. Maybe a new character is really what matt needs…

i didn’t like this one as much as the others actually. i mean i liked it, but i just get so fricking annoyed with damon!! goshh. i just want stefan to come back. ahaha.
i really hope theres another one…
    :)

I think she is probably going to do at least another trilogy. She certainly left this one open ended.
