My book reviews, book news & random rants

We were all warned as children to ‘never talk to strangers’, but how do you feel about book-talk with random people? When you see people reading, do you ask what it is? Do you talk to people in the book store or the library? Why or why not? What do you do if people talk to you?

Hmmm…I really had to think about this.  I think for the most part I don’t talk to random people unless I hear someone asking someone else about a book.  If it’s a book I loved I will sometimes say so or if they are asking when a certain book comes out or who wrote a book then I will speak up.  I’m more likely to talk to people in a book store than in a library though.  I guess I’m still stuck in the days when you got shushed for talking too loud in libraries.  I think outside of a library or book store the only time I’ve struck up a random conversation with someone was when I saw a woman reading from a Kindle next to me on the train.  It was before I got mine and couldn’t resist asking her how she liked it.  She was great giving me a quick overview of the features and letting me see how easy it was to read.  It was after this experience I decided to shell out the money for the Kindle.

Overall I am just too shy to talk to random people.  LOL.  Sometimes I have trouble talking to people I’ve even met before.

I do actually like it when people will talk to me about books.  I love hearing different points of view.

Bookstores and libraries are fair game, if you like talking to people that is :-)

I’m always talking to people in the bookstore. Especially when people are looking for recommendations for books. A lot of the time though I’ll hear someone say “I just finished reading the Twilight series, and now I have nothing to read” and then the sales person will automatically take the person to “The Host”. I’m like uh, these are totally different types of books! So I’ll speak up.

I read all the time, and in my Science class the kid that sits next to me always ask me, “What are you reading today?” he thinks it’s funny that I have a new book every time he sees me and likes to know what I’m reading. :)

Me too. I don’t think I’ll walk up to a person and talk to him/her about books, LOL. But if they look approachable or seems like they need help in choosing books, then I’ll probably step in. ;)

I won’t approach people first either. It depends on the situation. One time, in a bookstore, someone right next to me picked up a book I had read and I did tell her how much I loved it. But, it has to be the right situation and time for me to do that.

I was the exact same way before I got my Kindle … I wrote about it in my post too! My interest totally overshadowed any shyness I had! And I feel the same way about talking in a library.

I’d really like to be able to just talk to random people, but I just can’t bring myself to do it!

I’m not someone who talks to random people, at least not most of the time.

LOL. The Kindle bringing people together. I wish I was one of those people who felt comfortable talking to anyone.

Love talking to family and friends but reluctant with strangers.

I would do the exact same thing if I saw someone using a kindle. I want one. Someday, when the price goes down. I’m reluctant to talk to strangers but will gladly engage in book talk if they address me. My post is up now.

If you are holding a book, your fair game to me!
