Today's Library Haul

March 27th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

I went to the library and picked up 4 books I had requested.  Go figure about an hour after I get home I get a notice that one more book I requested has arrived.  I have 6 other books requested and now that I picked up 4 I can request another 4.  Woo hoo!  Such a bummer we are capped at 10 requests at a time.

My other requests are:

Dewey : a small-town library cat who touched the world / Vicki Myron, with Bret Witter-I’m 14 out of 48 holds

Terminal freeze / Lincoln Child-I’m 10th of 26 holds

The luxe / Anna Godbersen- next in line out of 5 holds!

WINTERGIRLS-I’m next in line and surprisingly no other holds on it

Evernight / Claudia Gray- 4th out of 4 holds

Just requested Revelations by Melissa De La Cruz so not sure where I’m at on the list yet.

Here is what I picked up today:

Description from Sabine is finally starting to feel accepted at her new high school. She’s friends with the popular girls and even has a cute boyfriend. But Sabine also has a dark secret-she’s psychic, and was forced to leave her old school after she accurately predicted the death of a football player. Volunteering with her friends to help run the psychic booth at their school’s fundraising carnival, Sabine discovers too late that the fake crystal ball she meant to bring has been mysteriously switched. In its place is the strange “witch ball” she locked away after her grandmother refused to have it in the house. Now the haunted witch ball’s predictions are coming true, and Sabine must solve the mystery before its final prediction-her own death-becomes a deadly reality. Finalist for the Coalition of Visionary Resources Award for Best Visionary Fiction Book.

Description from Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect lipsticks. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.” Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal.  Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara.

Description from Tessa has just months to live. Fighting back against hospital visits, endless tests, drugs with excruciating side-effects, Tessa compiles a list. It’s her To Do Before I Die list. And number one is Sex. Released from the constraints of ‘normal’ life, Tessa tastes new experiences to make her feel alive while her failing body struggles to keep up. Tessa’s feelings, her relationships with her father and brother, her estranged mother, her best friend, and her new boyfriend, all are painfully crystallised in the precious weeks before Tessa’s time finally runs out.

The book I just got a notice that it arrived is Betrayed, the second House of Night Book.

looks like some great ones, and more good ones coming up! I really want to read Need…and Evernight…and Wintergirls!

I’m hoping to get to the library this weekend, I really need to start getting some books there instead of buying them all. Not that I don’t already have a ton at home waiting to be read!! :)

Oooh the house of night series is pretty cool but as it goes on it gets less awesome which really sucks!

Bummer. I thought the first one was just ok which is why it took me so long to read the second one.

Katie-I know, sometimes I get too impatient and end up buying books if my library doesn’t purchase them right away.

For the House of Night books, I thought book 2 and 3 were the best!

That’s a lot of good books! Many that I want to read!

Lots of good books! I always get too many from the library but I can’t help it. I hadn’t heard of Witch Ball before. That will be going on my list. I’ve read Dewey and that was really good. I just won Wintergirls and can’t wait to read that one. Enjoy!

Thanks Katie! I hope they get better.

Wrighty-that is great you won Wintergirls! I’ve read great reviews on it.
