B as in Beauty by Alberto Ferreras

April 15th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

Thanks to Miriam at Hachette Book Group for the chance to review this book!

I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Description from Everyone in the world, it seems, is either prettier or thinner (or both) than Beauty Marie Zavala. And the only thing “B” resents more than her name is the way others judge her for the extra 40 pounds she can’t lose. At least she has her career. Or did, until she overhears her boss criticizing her weight and devising a scheme to keep her from being promoted. Enter B’s new tax accountant, a modern-day matchmaker determined to boost B’s flagging self-esteem by introducing her to rich, successful men who will accept her for who she is. As B’s confidence blossoms, so do her fantasies of revenge. But will B find true happiness or true disaster when she unwittingly falls for the one guy she shouldn’t?

I loved this book although I swear the premise of a woman learning to love herself through working as a “comfort provider” sounded like another book I read.  Other than that Ferraras amazed me being a man and yet as I read the book I would never have been able to tell.  B is funny and suffers from a lot of the same insecurities that many other women suffer.  I loved watching her come out of her shell and embrace who she is and eventually makes the career move that makes her happiest.  I would highly recommend this book to any lover of chick lit.
