Books to add to the wishlist

May 2nd, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

You saw in my earlier post that I made a trip to Borders.  I’ve been so good and haven’t been there in weeks because I really should not be buying any more books until I whittle down my TBR pile.  But they sent a 40% off one item coupon.  How can you resist right?  I was good and only bought one book but I saw a few more I want to add to my wish list.  I also found some interesting books while blog surfing.

Kissed By An Angel by Elizabeth Chandler

kissedbyangel

Description:

A love beyond life…a danger beyond doubt.

When her boyfriend, Tristan, died, Ivy thought she’d lost everything, even her faith in angels. But now she’s discovered that he’s her guardian angel — his presence so strong that she can feel the touch of his hand, the beat of his heart. Ivy needs Tristan now more than ever because he knows she’s in terrible danger. Only Ivy’s guardian angel can save her now that his killer is after her.

But if Tristan rescues Ivy, his mission on earth will be finished, and he must leave her behind forever. Will saving Ivy mean losing her just when he’s finally reached her again?

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

wintergirls

Description: Lia and Cassie are best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies, competitors in a deadly contest to see who can be the skinniest. But what comes after size zero and size double-zero? When Cassie succumbs to the demons within, Lia feels she is being haunted by her friend’s restless spirit.

In her most emotionally wrenching, lyrically written book since the multiple-award-winning Speak, best-selling author Laurie Halse Anderson explores Lia’s descent into the powerful vortex of anorexia, and her painful path toward recovery.

Gone by Michael Grant

gone

Description: In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.

Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what’s happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.

It’s a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else…

Ash by Malinda Lo

ash

Description: Pushed into indentured servitude in her stepmother’s household, Ash is consumed with grief after the death of her father and mother. Her only joy comes from the brief, stolen walks she takes in the nearby woods with the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean. Ash’s single, unspoken hope is that someday he might steal her away, as fairies are said to do.

But when she meets Kaisa, the King’s Huntress, her heart begins to change. Kaisa teaches Ash to ride and track, and as their friendship grows, Ash’s desire for life and for love is reawakened.

Ash is an empowering retelling of Cinderella, in which life and love triumph over death and grief.

Burning Alive: The Sentinel Wars by Shannon Butcher

burningalive

Description:

“There are worse ways to die…

They are the Sentinels. Three races descended from ancient guardians of mankind, each possessing unique abilities in their battle to protect humanity against their eternal foes–the Synestryn. Now, one warrior must fight his own desire if he is to discover the power that lies within his one true love…

For too long, Helen Day has been haunted by visions of her own death, surrounded by flames as a dark-haired man watches her burn. So when she sees the man of her nightmares staring at her across a diner, she attempts to flee–and ends up in the man’s arms. There, she awakens a force more powerful and enticing than she could ever imagine.

The instant the Theronai warrior Drake touches Helen, the anguish he has borne for years fades away. He is determined to know why this beautiful, fearful woman has such power over him. The answer lies in his very blood–and in Helen’s as well. For together, they may become more than lovers–they may become a weapon of light that could tip the balance of the war–and save Drake’s people…”

Awesome! I also have Kissed by an Angel on my wish list, did you know it was first published in 1998? They re-released it with a catchier cover hehe

Glad to hear Carrie! I remember seeing the sequel awhile back and thinking I needed to look for Gone and then forgot until I saw it at Borders.

Lisette-yeah I saw the old cover when I was browsing Amazon. The new cover looks so much better!
