Books to Add to the Wishlist

May 16th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

Stopped by Borders to try and find books for my daughter to help her learn her numbers 11-20 since she has 1-10 down pretty well (who would have thought this would be that hard?  Only found one that went up to 15).  If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.  She is 20 months so need something for that reading level.  Anyway, here are some books I saw that looked really good.

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

poisonstudy

Description: About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered a reprieve. She’ll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace, and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia. And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly’s Dust, and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison. As Yelena tries to escape her dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and she develops magical powers she can’t control. Her life’s at stake again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren’t so clear!

Angel’s Blood by Nalini Singh

Description: Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux is hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael. But this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break.

Edge of Danger by Rhyannon Byrd

Until—in her hour of greatest need—she encounters a mysterious, impossibly sexy shape-shifter.Sent to find the woman whose darkness has yet to awaken, Michael Quinn battles his primal hunger for Saige. He alone can help her lay claim to her full powers. Yet in doing so, he will destroy her innocence, and mark her as his forever….

Wicked: Witch and Curse by Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie

Description: Holly Cathers’s world shatters when her parents are killed in a terrible accident. Wrenched from her home in San Francisco, she is sent to Seattle to live with her relatives, Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole.

In her new home, Holly’s sorrow and grief soon give way to bewilderment at the strange incidents going on around her. Such as how any wish she whispers to her cat seems to come true. Or the way a friend is injured after a freak attack from a vicious falcon. And there’s the undeniable, magnetic attraction to a boy Holly barely knows.

Holly, Amanda, and Nicole are about to be launced into a dark legacy of witches, secrets, and alliances, where ancient magics yield dangerous results. The girls will assume their roles in an intergenerational feud beyond their wildest imaginations…and in doing so, will attempt to fulfill their shared destiny.

Got lucky today! Went to a fair in a city I lived in about 5 years ago and found out I had $5 credit at the used bookstore and found Poison Study. So I only had to pay $1.04 out of pocket.
