Library Loot June 21

June 21st, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Marg that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

I keep meaning to be good and check out less library books because I have so many unread books at home but I can’t resist.  Maybe I need a 12 step program?  blinders?  more will power?

Anywhere here is what I picked up:

Something, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott

somethingmaybe

Description: I wonder what it would be like to do high school things. To go out on the weekends. To kiss a guy. To have a normal life. A real one.

Everyone thinks their parents are embarrassing, but Hannah knows she’s got them all beat. Her dad made a fortune showcasing photos of pretty girls and his party lifestyle all over the Internet, and her mom was once one of her dad’s girlfriends and is now the star of her own website. After getting the wrong kind of attention for way too long, Hannah has mastered the art of staying under the radar…and that’s just how she likes it.

Of course, that doesn’t help her get noticed by her crush. Hannah’s sure that gorgeous, sensitive Josh is her soul mate. But trying to get him to notice her; wondering why she suddenly can’t stop thinking about another guy, Finn; and dealing with her parents make Hannah feel like she’s going crazy. Yet she’s determined to make things work out the way she wants — only what she wants may not be what she needs….

Angels on Sunset Boulevard by Melissa de la Cruz

angelsonsunsetboulevard

Description:  THE ANGELS PRACTICE, OR TAP, is the kind of cult that doesn’t exist. There are no rules and no records, just a MySpace-like website. All you need to know is that it will define who you are and what you will become.

Amidst the glittering L.A. nightlife, TAP parties are the place to see and be seen, especially in the exclusive back room. Taj and her rocker boyfriend, Johnny, are TAP elite, so when Taj meets preppie outsider Nick at a party, she doesn’t give him a second thought. But then Johnny goes missing, along with Nick’s sister. And suddenly Taj and Nick are teaming up to question TAP’s darker side….

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do-anthology

Description: Niki Burnham, Terri Clark, Ellen Hopkins, and Lynda Sandoval give us four tales about the end of first love. How does anyone survive? Read on and find out. Each story showcases the writer’s signature style: Niki Burnham keeps it smart and sassy; Terri Clark brings a touch of fantasy; Ellen Hopkins tells her story in verse; and no one does funny like Lynda Sandoval.

Love, Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli

lovestargirl

Description: Love, Stargirl picks up a year after Stargirl ends and reveals the new life of the beloved character who moved away so suddenly at the end of Stargirl. The novel takes the form of “the world’s longest letter,” in diary form, going from date to date through a little more than a year’s time. In her writing, Stargirl mixes memories of her bittersweet time in Mica, Arizona, with involvements with new people in her life.

In Love, Stargirl, we hear the voice of Stargirl herself as she reflects on time, life, Leo, andof courselove.

Cherry Heaven by L.J. Adlington

cherryheaven

Description: Kat and Tanka J are starting over. The New Frontier is nothing like war-stricken City Five—no battle scars, no memories of their parents. It’s a perfect society, where everyone lives in harmony. Or so they say.

There’s me, the ghost in the glass, and there’s everyone else on the warm side of the windows. If you’re really quiet, you’ll hear me creeping in the shadows.

Someone else is starting over, too, running on a path perilously close to Kat and Tanka. Can the two girls and their friends uncover the dark secrets of the New Frontier before the unthinkable happens?

The last birthday i ever had, years ago, was the one where I got shot instead of presents. i wasn’t killed before and i won’t get dead now. run, run as fast as i can, can’t catch me ’cause i got a Plan! Don’t anyone get in my way.

Hunger by Michael Grant

hunger

Description: IT’S BEEN THERE MONTHS SINCE EVERYONE UNDER THE AGE OF FIFTEEN BECAME TRAPPED IN THE BUBBLE KNOWN AS THE FAYZ.

THREE MONTHS SINCE ALL THE ADULTS DISAPPEARED.

GONE.

Food ran out weeks. Everyone is starving, but no one wants to figure out a solution. And each day, more and more kids are evolving, developing supernatural abilities that set them apart from the kids without powers.

Tension rises and chaos is descending upon the town. It’s the normal kids against the mutants. Each kid is out for himself, and even the good ones turn murderous.

But a larger problem looms. The Darkness, a sinister creature that has lived buried deep in the hills, begins calling to some of the teens in the FAYZ. Calling to them, guiding them, manipulating them.

The Darkness has awakened. And it is hungry.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Darkside by Beth Fantaskey

jessicasguidedatingdarkside

Description: The undead can really screw up your senior year . . .

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.

I know. Our library is tiny so it’s surprisingly good for its size.

I’ve been meaning to read the Stargirl books for awhile!
