Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Darkside by Beth Fantaskey

I give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Description: The undead can really screw up your senior year . . .

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.

I had some doubts about reading this book because I have seen mixed reviews about it.  But on one of my trips to the library it was just sitting there on the shelf calling to me to pick it up.  I’m glad I did.  While it was not an awesome book it was really enjoyable.  Lucius was funny and a nice mix between obnoxiously arrogant and sweetly chivalrous.  The reader also gets to hear his point of view through “letters” written to his uncle about how his courting of Jessica is going.  It is pretty funny reading his comments about life as a high schooler, the vegetarian meals in the Packwood home and the various American sayings he has picked up.  This book is a really quick read and if you are on the vampire kick going around I would pick this one up.

Awww you didn’t like it too much? I’m sorry. I really liked it :) I didn’t really like his letters though. I liked that we got to read what he was thinking but the way those letters were written were kinda funky. I still really liked the story, it was VERY fun and cute.

Lisette-I didn’t dislike it. I thought it was fun but not near knocking out Vampire Academy out of my favorite vampire read.

Oh I LOVE Vampire Academy too :) Hmm I don’t know I love both I can’t decide which I like more. This one really surprised me and I loved the writing which is one of the main reasons I loved it so much. :D Well, it’s still pretty tough to knock out VA. :D

LOL. VA just totally grabbed me and I love Dmitri! Lucius sounded pretty yummy himself and I liked that he had a sense of humor.

this book was so adorable! i really liked it. it did get kinda slow at one point when lucius wasn’t speaking to jessica, but that was probably just because i wanted them together so badly. haha :) i really enjoyed this book though.
