The Black Parade by Pattie Garner

August 5th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to Pattie for sending me this copy to review!

Description: I think at some time in our lives, we all struggle with why we are here. Or what our purpose will be in a troubled world – a fallen world. But now, I could see that in all my pain there was this healing, and his words gave meaning to my life again. He had been searching for purpose and had found me. And I, for the first time, had felt I was here for some cause. A reason maybe I wouldn’t understand tomorrow or until my time had ended. But I had found life again and a reason to live. There was no going back. Our lives were about to change. I could feel it. The knife and the cuts in my hands were only the beginning.

I have had this book sitting in my TBR pile for awhile now and now I am kicking myself for not picking it up sooner.  I could not put this book down and ended up staying up late to finish it.  The main character, Patience, was a nice mix of someone nice enough to put up with an extremely pushy, chatter box friend and yet has her flaws like judging people based on their appearance or making a snap judgment.  I have to admit some of her judgments like that of Drake did irk me but then again when haven’t we all made a snap judgment of a person based on gossip or appearances.

I did guess some of the surprises ahead of time like who Lt. Niles and Drake really were but there were still some surprising revelations at the end.  I did not realize based on the book blurb but you find out in the first few pages that vampires are going to play a role in the story.  The take on vampires was a nice blend of the tortured soul and evil, blood sucking vampires and was not the overwhelming subject of the story.  It was more of a nice supporting piece.

I really wish it had gone on a little more to find out more of what happens after the book’s conclusion.  From the excerpt of the next book it looks like we get to see Drake growing up.

Not only is The Black Parade a wonderful book but the author is also helping to raise money for St. Jude.  Check out her blog, The Black Parade,  for more information.

The title immediately grabbed me as I am a HUGE My Chemical Romance fan and their CD The Black Parade is one of my all-time favorite CDs. I’ve never heard of the book before your review made me want to look it up. Thanks for the recommendation!

Actually, if you are a huge Chemical Romance fan…then you will see the song in the book…even more in the prequel. The Black Parade: The Phantom Series is my take on the song. Tell me what you think when you read it! Thank you Debbie for reading it and now you will have to go back and listen to the lyrics of the song. :)

I never heard of the CD until I tried to find this book on Amazon. I think you can only buy the book from I think Lulu (there is a link on the author’s blog). I don’t think it’s related to the music at all though.

Still a wonderful book and I would really like to get the word out.

Thanks for pointing that out Pattie! Now I will have to go and listen to that sound.

I loved this book! The characters captured my heart and my mind. I can’t wait to hear more about them! This book has a great message and I think that you might be a little better version of yourself after reading it! I can’t wait for the next one.

I’m so glad you liked it! I’m afraid the price of the book might prevent people from buying it but it is so worth reading.
