Musing Mondays August 17

August 16th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post from Just One More Page is about movies …

How do you react to movies made of your favourite books (or even not-so-favourite books)? Do you look forward to seeing them, or avoid them? Do you like to have read the book before seeing the movie?

When I hear one of my favorite books are being made into a movie my first reaction is excitement because I cannot wait to see it come to life.  Then the nerves hit about who will they cast?  Will I like them?  Will they do the character justice?  I have my doubts if I should watch the movie in case it ruins it for me or take the chance.  For the most part the movie never lives up to my expectations but some do better jobs than others.  If I had not read a book before the movie comes out I will try to wait to see the movie first since I do usually end up disappointed if I read it before seeing the movie.

  • I actually liked The Bourne Identity movies better than the books.
  • I thought the Harry Potter movies were decently done.
  • Twilight was pretty bad for me since I didn’t care for Kristen Stewart’s acting although she did look how I pictured Bella.
  • Tom Hanks wasn’t at all how I picture the main character in The Da Vinci Code so I will admit I didn’t watch the movie
  • I loved both the BBC and Keira Knightly editions of Pride and Prejudice, my all time favorite book

The upcoming movies I’m curious to see how they turn out are The Hunger Games, Wings (Miley Cyrus is not how I pictured the main character) and Uglies.

I enjoyed The Lord of the Rings movies better than the books – Peter Jackson did a fine job with them. The first Narnia was good, but the second lacked. Hoping Dawn Treader will be better!

I too liked The Bourne movies!

I was ok with Kristen Stewart, it was Robert Pattinson that bugged me – but I have made peace with those choices :) I’m excited to see the movies get better as the series goes on – Eclipse is my favorite of the Twilight Sage, so I’ll be really interested to see it on the big screen in a couple of years.

    Here’s my musing…

    The LOTR movies were great!

Susan-Robert Pattinson didn’t look how I pictured Edward but I thought he did an ok job. LOL. Eclipse was my least favorite but that’s probably because I’m not a big Jacob fan.

not of huge fan of movies from books. They just so often get it wrong …must I must say I thought they did a very good job with LotR…which is amazing, considering the complexity of the books,

I didn’t really like Kristen Stewart for Bella either. Its quite surprising how many movies are actually books first.
