In My Mailbox September 19

September 19th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

In My Mailbox is brought to you by The Story Siren.

I’ve been trying to cut back on accepting book reviews since my pile of TBR books was becoming unmanageable. So no new books this week for review but some good books from other sources.

From various book swaps:

Having just been contracted for her new ‘Enter the Light’ series, Gabe tries to handle it all. But it seems like her luck has run dry when she’s ill-trained to take her proper place as guardian, having a dry spell at painting, and for some reason can’t help but fall for Rhys Llewellyn, the sexy Brit who offers his help in more ways than one…

Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she’s a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunt’s house in Revelation, Colorado. It’s there that she learns that she is a Fenestra – the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead. Their father was murdered, and their mother was driven mad by magicians and the demons who give them power. Danger draws even closer when a brother and sister come to the Ryves family for help. The boy wears a demon’s mark, a sign of death that almost nothing can erase…and when Alan also gets marked by a demon, Nick is des-perate to save him. The only way to do that is to kill one of the magicians they have been hiding from for so long.

Ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Nick starts to suspect that his brother is telling him lie after lie about their past. As the magicians’ Circle closes in on their family, Nick uncovers the secret that could destroy them all.

Ash by Malinda Lo

ash

Description from Fantastic Fiction: Cinderella retold

In the wake of her father’s death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King’s Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash’s capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.
