The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa de la Cruz

October 8th, 2009 by Debbie's World of Books

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars

Description from With the stunning revelation surrounding Bliss’s true identity comes the growing threat of the sinister Silver Bloods. Once left to live the glamorous life in New York City, the Blue Bloods now find themselves in an epic battle for survival. Not to worry, love is still in the air for the young vampires of the Upper East Side. Or is it? Jack and Schuyler are over. Oliver’s brokenhearted. And only the cunning Mimi seems to be happily engaged.

I swear this series just gets better and better as it goes on.  I went from thinking book 1 was just ok to loving this one and not being able to put it down.  We were totally left hanging at the end of Revelations and this book picks up almost a year after the events down in Rio.   The chapter’s point of views rotate between Bliss, Schuyler and Mimi which at first was a little jarring but you quickly find the rhythm.  There is a lot of action going on as we now know who Bliss really is and begin to see what plans her father is hatching.  Schuyler and Oliver are also on the run after the Conclave accuses Schuyler of killing her grandfather.  We find out a lot more information in this book about who people really are and the parts they played in the past.  We also seem to get some sort of resolution in the Schuyler-Oliver-Jack love triangle.  And no I will not say what happens.  You should run out and buy the book to find out.  The one small negative I had was on the Bliss-Mimi relationship.  We don’t see them interact much yet we hear Bliss often referring to how flighty and superficial Mimi has been acting recently.  Yet when we see her point of view and Mimi’s point of view I didn’t see what she was talking about.  I was even surprised to find myself actually starting to like Mimi in this one.  Still a wonderful book and I cannot wait for the next one!

I felt the same way about Mimi. I was surprised about half way through when I set the book down and thought, ‘Am I really rooting for Mimi??” ha! I loved this book as well. I can’t wait to see what will happen next. There were only 2 things that sort of irked me, one of them I can’t say because it will give away the book (but it’s about who dies at the end of it, I was acctually starting to really like that character) and the second was that I wish she could have gone into a little bit more depth about all the details about the past because it’s heavy stuff and now that it’s been a few days since I’ve read the book I don’t remember it all so I’ll have to read it again.

But I loved it. I haven’t gone to read the short story yet that was a target exclusive, but I’ll probably do that this weekend.

    Great review!!

I don’t think we have seen the last of that character. I need to go read the Target short story too!

I just couldn’t get in the mood to read this one and have no idea why. Weird, huh?

Liking Mimi? Whoa. So is she painted in a better light in this one or do you see more of her better side? Mimi is so mean; I don’t think I could warm up to her.

But thanks for the review! I can’t wait to read Van Alen Legacy! It’s going to be so good, I can just tell. And your review just added to the excitement. :D

    J. Kaye-you totally should! Get a lot of answers in this one.

Sarah-I know right? Sounds impossible but while she still has her issues you do see another side to her.
