State of the TBR Pile Update January 25

January 25th, 2010 by Debbie's World of Books

Last week I started this project so here is my latest update.

I am a little ashamed to admit that I’ve let the number of unread books sitting on my shelves surpass the 200 mark.  This is just books I’ve bought, traded for, etc. and does not include any books I received for review.

So for 2010 I am making it a priority to read from the piles of books I already own and try to limit the number of new books I buy each month.  I’m hoping if I do a weekly State of the TBR Pile post it will help keep me on track.  I’ll be posting which books are in my TBR pile that I am aiming to read for this month, any new books I’ve bought and are added to the TBR pile and the status of how many of my TBR books I’ve completed.

I hope I am not alone in my towering TBR piles so please feel free to jump in and post about what your goals are for the month regarding your TBR pile.

To Read

The Bought/Borrowed

Another week and the will power is still holding out.  I have yet to make a trip to the book store.  I did borrow one book because I accidentally accepted book 2 for review.  I picked up:

The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner

Description from The winds of change are blowing through Paris in 1789, both for France and a mysterious Gypsy boy named Yann Margoza. He was born with a gift for knowing what people are thinking and an uncanny ability to throw his voice, skills he uses while working for a foolish magician. On the night of a special performance, he meets shy Sido, a lonely heiress with a cold-hearted father. Though they have the shortest of conversations, an attachment is born that will influence both of their paths. While revolution is afoot in France, Sido is being used as the pawn of the fearful villain Count Kalliovski. Some have instead called him the devil; and only Yann, for Sido’s sake, will dare to oppose him.

I finished Oh My Gods and loved it.  My review will post towards the end of the month or early February.  I am reading a review book right now and then plan on starting Patient Zero.

Hey, at least you made it through 1 book already! I like that you have goals set up for getting through them, I should do the same thing. And I should stop buying books too–I seem to have gone on a mad spree of eBook shopping for my nook… Yikes! My current TBR list, which doesn’t include the eBooks I’ve purchased, is on a tab on my header. I don’t like clicking on it, lol, ’cause then I see that I’ve not made much progress…

Drey-yes, this post is what helped motivate me. Awhile back I just had a long list of all my TBR books but I couldn’t keep up with updating all the books I was buying and I just wasn’t reading from that pile. I can’t wait to hear what you think of the Nook! I have my Kindle which I love but am waiting to hear how the Nook pans out. Good luck on your TBR list!

I held out for a week. That went out the window today. Had a 30% coupon to use by today and well I just had to use that lol. Not only did I do that, but I went to my favorite local used bookstore where I have some credit stored and I bought 3 more books! I’ve got to find some stronger willpower!

Congrats on resisting the lure of the book store! I’m afraid to count the number of books in my TBR piles, and have them scattered throughout the house so it doesn’t look so bad. *L*

    Good luck!

Good luck getting through the books on your shelves. I’m trying to do the same. Happy reading.

I let mine get to 40 I have officially stopped buying books (there are just so many coming out right now) until I finish. I wanted to read The Red Necklace but haven’t bought it yet.

Zia-I know, those 30% off coupons are so hard to resist.
Alexia-I know, I had to clean up and move all my books onto my bookshelves in my room. That’s when I realized how out of control my pile is. Plus I started finding doubles of books! Not good.
    Serena-good luck to you too!
Pam-lol. I remember when you were once saying you had no books left in your TBR! Happy reading.
