I give this book 4 out of 5 stars

Description from Goodreads.com: The Drakes are rather different to your usual neighbours. They are vampires and some of the members of the family date back to the twelfth century. One of the children, Solange, is the only born female vampire known and, as such, she poses a direct threat to the vampire queen. Her best friend Lucy is human, and when Solange is kidnapped Lucy and Solange’s brother, Nicholas, set out to save her. Lucy soon discovers that she would like to be more than just friends with Nicholas. But how does one go about dating a vampire? Meanwhile, Solange finds an unlikely ally in Kieran, a vampire slayer on the hunt for his father’s killer.

I’ve been wanting to read this one for ages but I think I got vampired out for awhile so it sat on my shelves.  I am so glad I finally picked it up to read.  It was a quick, fun read that I did not want to put down.  The chapters alternate being from Solange’s point of view and Lucy’s point of view.  I have to admit although Solange is the vampire “princess” Lucy and Nicholas’s story is the one that really grabbed me.  The chemistry between the two of them were great and you were just waiting for them to give into the inevitable and get together.  Kieran’s and Solange’s romance seemed a little more abrupt and out of the blue to me.  They seemed to rely more on instant chemistry rather than building a relationship with each other.  Still this is a wonderful read and I cannot wait for the sequel!  I’m hoping eventually we will get to see more of all of Solange’s brothers, possibly each will have their own book?  Wouldn’t that be great. LOL.

That would lead to lots of books, if each had there own – what a cool idea though! I cant wait to read Blood Feud, awesome! I love your review

I’m glad that you enjoyed Hearts at Stake. Like you I thought the romance between Nicholas and Lucy was more believable and interesting. I preferred Lucy as a character to Solange perhaps because for much of the book Solange is ill and weak because of the change and Lucy is a strong character in comparison. I am really looking forward to Blood Feud. Nice review!

I totally agree with your comment about all the vamp books. I keep seeing more and more and keep staying away from starting them. I am glad you liked this one. Maybe it is time for me to give the vamps a try again too.

I really enjoyed this one and thought it was pure fun! I loved Lucy and Nicholas, too. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series.

Jenn-I’m always up for a long series as long as the stories stay interesting :)
Christina-I agree. Maybe in future books Solange will appear to be a stronger character.
Jan-yup, I love me some vampire books but at this point there has to be something unique or a really fun/great story to catch my interest.
    Amy-Can’t wait for Blood Feud!

I thought it was a fun read too! I was surprised by how well the alternate voices worked.

I read Blood Feud a few months ago and Solange really becomes a strong female lead.
