If you missed what this is all about check out Maw Books Blog for the details.  So without further ado…

bloggiestaStart

For those of you who have stuck with me through the past few rough months you know life has pretty much taken over and I haven’t had as much time to devote to my blog.  I feel like the quality has deteriorated and I really want to polish things up before baby #2 arrives next month.  What better time to do this than during Bloggiesta?  I may not have much time to devote to Bloggiesta this weekend but here is a list of what I hope to work on.

  • I have a bunch of scheduled book reviews that I want to revisit and revise
  • Need to write reviews of the following books
    • Sea Glass by Maria V. Snyder
    • By The Time You Read This, I’ll Be Dead by Julie Anne Peters
    • The Dead of Night by John Marsden
    • A Killing Frost by John Marsden
    • Ten Things I Love About You by Julia Quinn
  • Set up at least one or two more posts for my Who Would You Pick? series
  • Clean up my tabs
  • Link up any missing links of my reviews on the Books Read in 2009 and 2010 pages
  • Revisit how and where I really want to post links (Facebook, Book Blogs ning, Twitter, etc.)
  • Participate in the mini-challenges
  • I should probably revisit the metadata mini-challenge that I think took place awhile back because I’ve stopped doing that and need a refresher
  • Update my blogroll again
  • I’m sure there is much more and I will be adding to the list as I go on

Question: What are your thoughts about sidebar content? I’ve seen quite a few blogs that have those countdown widgets and the Amazon.com widgets in which you can showcase the covers of favorite books, upcoming books, etc.  I’m debating if I want to add any of those.  Do you actually pay attention to what people put in their sidebars?  Do you find them too distracting?  What kind of things do you like to see in sidebars?  Thanks for the feedback!

Mini-Challenges

I am still waiting to see what the final list of mini-challenges will be but I know for sure I’ll be participating in:

I definitely understand “life taking over”. Best of luck to you this weekend and congrats on the baby! :)

Good luck – I hope you reach your goals!

my opinion on sidebars is that they should help people better navigate your blog and find your other content that they might want to read.

    Thanks everyone!

Good luck on your goals. This is the first time I am participating. I pay attention to sidebars, at least until they start to look cluttered or really long. If things are kind of organized then it is fine to add widgets and blogrolls and etc.

I want a sidebar to help me find specific content. I don’t like sidebars with lots of images and book covers of “books I’m reading”, “books to be read” etc. I personally don’t like the google friends connect thingy either. The less images, the better. That being said, I have a few images in the top of my sidebar as well, but try to keep it as clean as possible.
As far as I am concerned, the sidebar needs categories, labels or tags, search function, maybe a twitter link and links in general. Possibly RSS feed, though I always use my browser’s function to subscribe.
    HTH, happy bloggiesta!

You know, I actually do pay attention to some of what’s on everyone’s sidebars. Mostly to what everyone is currently reading. I love to see what everyone is reading!

    Good luck with your goals!

I’m really hoping the challenge helps out! It can be really confusing, so I tried to highlight a few things that could get everyone started.

I hear yah on the book reviews and the blogroll update! I’m in desperate need of both. Good luck! I’m sure I’ll see you around some this weekend!

Side bars…they are one of my tasks as well. I don’t like a super crowded side bar because I get overwhelmed. It’s nice to have a mixture of text and graphics though.

I probably only pay attention to the sidebar the first time I visit a blog, so I would say put up what you want new visitors to know about you. But I know everyone is different, so sometimes I think you should just do what makes you happy!
    Have fun with the challenge!

I tend to be more of a minimalist in the sidebar department. I have posts, archives and categories (plus one image based widget) but nothing much else. I’m debating putting in a widget to link up my other social networking sites. But other than that I’ll likely keep it to a minimum.

Good luck this round, hope you get everything done you want to. :)

I like looking at bloggers’ sidebars as long as they are not cluttered. It is interesting to see what other bloggers are reading and seeing their labels.

Have a great weekend and good luck finishing your tasks.

Good to see you! :) I dont mind sidebar things as long as they are somewhat tidy. I have seen some which just looks like clutter. I have found interesting links on some side bars and occasionally find a new blog or two as well :)

Good luck with the Bloggiesta. Great goals. Great question about the sidebar. I have tried to keep mine pretty simple, but with currently reading books I find it’s easier to use something like Goodreads that way I am also updating on there as well. As far as other blogs go I always love to see what others are reading as long as the sidebar doesn’t take too much time to load.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I did remove a few things from my sidebars to declutter it. Now I just have to evaluate if I want to add anything or remove anything else.
