BBAW: Unexpected Treasure

BBAW Wednesday—Unexpected Treasure
We invite you to share with us a book or genre you tried due to the influence of another blogger.  What made you cave in to try something new and what was the experience like?

One book I finally read thanks to reading Amy’s read-along posts at My Friend Amy’s blog was Gone With the Wind.  That was one book I’ve had on my TBR list for well over a decade and just never got to it.  I felt like it was a classic that one should read but it just looked so huge and boring that I never could bring myself to read it.  After reading Amy’s posts it really peaked my interest and although I missed the read-along in the blogging world I suggested it as a read-along book for my online book club.

I was blown away by how into the book I got.  I had just had my baby two weeks before starting this and I could not stop reading.  So here I was sleep deprived and waking up at all hours of the night to feed my baby and I was enjoying it because it gave me more reading time to get through GWTW.  I had never seen the movie either so everything was new and I could not wait to see what would happen next.  If it were not for Amy this book would probably still be lingering on my TBR list and it probably would have been another decade before I got to it.  If you have not read it yet I really recommend you do so and don’t let the size or age of the book intimidate you like I did.

I was so sad that I couldn’t participate in Amy’s readalong of GWTW–looked like you guys had so much fun! I’ve been tackling other books through readalongs and it’s great to have the support of other bloggers!

If you haven’t read GWTW you should! I really need to get moving on my next readalong book, Little Women.

Wow, this makes me reconsider GWTW. I thought it would be boring too. Now I may have to read it.

My favorite classic movie, though I have not read the book. Maybe I should?!

GWTW is amazing- simply amazing, the book and the movie both. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s one of my all-time favorite books!

I read GWTW a few years ago. I was surprised at how much I liked it. :)

Jessica-I thought the same thing. It mat start off a little slow but then it totally sucks you in (although I did want to smack Scarlett across the back of her head sometimes. lol)
Marie-I haven’t seen the movie yet. Must do so.
    Chrisbookarama-Same here.

That’s one book I still have yet to read and really should!

Yay! I loved this book so much too and was also surprised by how much. I’m so glad you read it!

I’ve not ever read this book but it’s one of my favorite movies of all time! I have read the follow up Scarlett (which was alright) and Rhett Butler’s People (which was a bit slow but still good). You should give them a try as well.
