October in Review

October 31st, 2010 by Debbie's World of Books

October has been a pretty hectic month.  My daughter started preschool and they require parent participation each semester.  Since I go back to work in a week I was busy trying to squeeze in all my volunteer hours while I was on maternity leave.  Plus my Buy Books for the Holidays/Give the Gift of Reading project has been keeping me busy.  There have been so many wonderful suggestions coming in so I’ve been busy compiling the shopping lists (and yes adding to my wish list).

Here is what I read this past month:

81. Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny-3.5 stars

82. Kiss Me Deadly 13 Tales of Paranormal Love anthology

83. Vixen by Jillian Larkin-3 stars

94. Cate of the Lost Colony by Lisa M. Klein-3 stars

Author Signings:

October was another great month to see author appearances in the area.

Lisa Desrochers, Sophie Jordan and Kiersten White were at my local indie, Keplers.  They were great to see and all had a great sense of humor. Lisa addressed one of the biggest complaints that Gabriel didn’t have a POV in Personal Demons and said that was on purpose.  He still won’t have one in book 2 but will in book 3.  So we’ll see if that makes him more likeable.  Sophie mentioned that in her sequel to Firelight the love triangle will be come a love square with the appearance of a new guy.

Also got to see James Dashner and he was a lot of fun.  It was interesting to hear about how Lord of the Flies and Ender’s Game influenced his writing and what a movie buff he is.  I read The Maze Runner but not The Scorch Trials yet but he did say The Scorch Trials is a bit darker and the third book will be also.

Looks like a really good month of reading, but I am sad for you that there are no 5 star books! Maybe in November. I totally get the working mom thing and trying to fit it all in. Don’t run yourself ragged!
