What’s New Out There?

November 21st, 2010 by Debbie's World of Books

So there are always little tidbits out there that I don’t want to dedicate an entire post to otherwise I’d be posting several times a day.  So here are the things I’ve seen around the web in the past few weeks.

Cover reveals of two of my favorite series.

The Watchers by Inara Scott (Book 2 of The Delcroix Academy)

I’m not a huge fan of the cover and I think it’s just the blunt cut of the girls bangs that just bugs me.

Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer (Nightshade series)

I like this cover for the most part except that she sort of looks like she glitters which reminds me of the Twilight vampires.

I cannot wait for both these books!

Give Kindle Books As Gifts

Amazon has announced that you can now give Kindle books as a gift.  See the details here

  • You can choose from 725,000 books
  • You don’t have to own a Kindle to give or receive the books. They can be read on the Kindle or using the Kindle app on a PC, Mac, iPhone, etc.
  • If the person receiving the book doesn’t want it they can exchange it for an Amazon gift card

eReader News

Black Friday deals-So far I’ve seen that Best Buy is offering the Nook for $99 and Wal Mart has one of the Sony eReaders for $99.  I’m not sure which one it is but I would assume it’s the Pocket edition that retails normally for $149.

eInk color is going to be available in the Hanvon eReader.  The color isn’t as vibrant as in LCD devices and apparently will look like faded photographs.  It cannot handle full video motion.  You can see more details at this NY Times article.

Chronicle Books

They are also offering a Happy Haulidays celebration where you can win $500 worth of books. For bloggers you just have to make a post of what books you would pick and for non-bloggers one commenter on the winning post will also win the books listed on that post.  My list is posted here.  You can visit some of the other posts here.

2011 and 2012 Debut Authors

The Class of 2K11, 2011 debut authors, and the Apocalypsies, 2012 debut authors, are out and about on their own websites and Twitter.  See my post on some of the awesome books coming out and where to find out more news.

The Story Siren has opened up sign ups for her 2011 Debut Author Challenge.  I’ve pretty much given up on challenges but since I know there are a bunch of 2011 debut authors I want to read I decided this will be the one I sign up for.  These are the books I know I want to read:

Your debut author list looks good! I read Unearthly a few weeks back and enjoyed it quite a bit. I’m hopeful to read quite a few of these as well :)
