End of 2010 and What’s To Come

December 28th, 2010 by Debbie's World of Books

Can you believe 2010 is already over and we are entering 2011?!  So what did I do in 2010?

  • I read 125 books which while a little disappointing compared to last year’s 236 books I am still a little surprised considering we had a new baby in July.
  • My year was dominated by YA reads-79 books, 14 adult romance/chick lit books, 6 sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal books, 7 historical fiction/Pride and Prejudice related fiction, 7 action/mystery/suspense books and 1 non-fiction.  I definitely need to get back to branching out.  I love my YA but I’m missing my romance and action books.
  • My favorite genre this year was probably utopias/dystopias
  • I added 5 more Who Would You Pick posts in which you choose which guy you would pick:
  • I finally read Gone With The Wind which has been on my TBR list for probably about 15 years now.
  • I’ve met a  bunch of great bloggers, readers and authors.

What’s to come in 2011?

  • Unfortunately due to my hubby being laid off about 5.5 months ago I won’t be making it to BEA which is a total bummer. I missed out last year since I was at the end of my pregnancy and was making plans to go in 2011 but it wasn’t meant to be.
  • I will be attending ALA midwinter in January since it is much closer and cheaper for me.  I am super excited and hope I will finally have a chance to meet up with some bloggers I’ve only spoken with online  face to face.
  • Like I mention above I am going to make an attempt to be a bit more eclectic again even though there are some great YA releases I am looking forward to.
  • I would like to find more ways of interacting more with the blogging community.
  • I’m not sure of any drastic changes to the blog but we shall see.  If there are any changes you would like to see please let me know! Would you like to see fewer postings a week?  Different content? Anything?
  • In my personal life I am also going to attempt a career change. I received my master’s in library and information sciences back in 2005 but only worked in a library for 2 years after that.  It was in a corporate library but I am hoping to find something in a public library or if not in a library something bookish related.  I’ve worked in software for 8 years now and the work schedule, trainings, early morning and late night meetings with other countries are getting a little tiresome now that I have 2 little kiddos in my life.  So we shall see what will come.  If anyone has any advice about transitioning into a library position or other alternative careers that fit in with an MLIS degree I am all ears.

Here’s to a new year!  What changes do you foresee in the new year for your reading or blogging habits?

I’m so sad you won’t be able to make it to BEA this year. I was hoping to finally meet you! But ALA will be a great time and will give you a much more muted version of BEA. I hope you have a fantastic time. You’ve got some great goals here, best of luck as you transition careers I know you’d make a wonderful asset to a library.

I imagine having one new baby makes it much easier to read than having a new baby AND a toddler. ;)

I won’t be making it to BEA this year either (I’m 99% sure I have to pass).

Good luck with your career change!

Aww I’m sad you aren’t coming to BEA but that’s totally understandable! And wow–a career change! How exciting! And yay for eclectic blogging! I am excited to see what else you will be reading because I’m always looking for good adult recs and seems as though most of my GR is YA blogs. I’m still trying to find other eclectic bloggers to infiltrate my Google Reader :P

I hope 2011 is wonderful for you and I’m excited to be a part of that bookish part of it!

Michelle-I know! I am so bummed that I won’t get to meet you in person :(
Michelle-Bummer you won’t be going either. Hopefully we can meet at another event.
Jamie-I am so excited to get back to non-YA books. I just put together my In My Mailbox post and am loving all the different books I got. Hope 2011 is great for you too!
