Debbie's World of Books
My book reviews, book news & random rants

Bloggiesta Ole!

January 20th, 2011 by Debbie's World of Books

Some of you may be asking what is Bloggiesta? In short, it’s a blogging marathon.  A opportunity to cross those nagging items off of your to-do list and improve your blog while in the good company of other awesome bloggers doing the same thing. Thanks to Natasha at Maw Books for hosting!

What to do during the Bloggiesta?

  • Write reviews.
  • Write backup posts for a rainy day.
  • Write that great post idea from three months back.
  • Work on series posts.
  • Write guest posts.
  • Put out invitations for guest posts.
  • Conduct and edit author interviews.
  • Create template posts for your future reads (ie: title, images, linking, tags, etc,) so you can open up, write review and post without being bogged down with technicalities
  • Clean up your tags, archives, books reviewed list, etc.
  • Create a text file (or Google Doc) of cheat sheets (html codes, post url’s, etc)
  • Improve your blog template, clean up sidebars, add a favicon, install those plugins that you’ve been meaning to do.
  • Add or edit your about me page, review policy, disclosure policy, privacy policy, create landing pages (for example – an about me for Twitter readers page) or any other pages you might have.
  • and more!

What do I have planned?

  • Since I’ve started having a back log of reviews to post and have been pre-scheduling them I’ve been bad about linked my links to my Books read in 20xx.  So I want to go back to 2010 and make sure my Books read in 2011 reviews are all linked up
  • I have a few ideas about posts I have been wanting to write so I’m going to get at least two of those done.
  • I have to write my review for The Unexpected Son by Shobhan Bantwal
  • Look into a plugin to make my site mobile due to some requests for that
  • Debating if people would be interested in me expanding my Book events in the Bay Area to cover conferences I’ve heard about like ALA, BEA, RT Con, LA Book Festival, etc.
  • I wanted to get a new Who Would You Pick post up for the Iron Fey books (Ash vs. Puck)
  • I have to put together a CSN Stores post
  • I’m sure other things will come up as I work

I love reading everyone’s lists because it’s giving ideas for my own list. Enjoy and good luck! Think I’m off to do some challenges…

I especially like your thinking of covering book events and conferences…I am in the greater LA area and the LA Book Festival is huge and you will have tons of fun covering it !! Good luck with all your challenges.

Sounds like a good list and, most important, it’s doable during the weekend. Good luck and have fun!

I tried to add the widget you have at the bottom of your posts of “You Might Also Like” but, sadly, it doesn’t work for the wordpress site I have. :( You’re site looks great though! Happy Bloggiesta!

Oh, that’s too bad. Maybe it only works on self hosted wordpress sites. I found the wordpress.com sites had a lot of restrictions. That was the main reason I moved to self hosted.

Lots of good goals here too! I love your goal of finding a mobile plugin. Let me know if you learn anything good regarding that!

I installed a plugin called WP Mobile Detector. So far it looks pretty good on my iPhone. We will see if anyone complains about it.
