Got Ink?

February 12th, 2011 by Debbie's World of Books

I’ve heard of Inkpop around the Twitterverse but only recently had a chance to go check out what they are all about after one of their site managers pinged me.  Being HarperCollins and HarperTeen put out some of my favorite books I had to check it out and it looks pretty cool.  Here is how they describe their site:

Love to Write? Connect with other teen writers like yourself. Read and vote on what others write. Talk about novels, poetry or a book you love. Write a post for the community. Connect with other literary teens like yourself. Make the Top Pick list and your writing will be read by a HarperCollins editor.

The main reason why I wanted to call your attention to this site is the great things I found just on my first visit to their site and their blog.  First off this book looks awesome and it was first posted on Inkpop.

Description from A move to Ireland is about to introduce Megan to her destiny, her real destiny, can she embrace it and will she survive it?

A tragedy in Megan’s past set her on a predetermined course. A chain of events has been set in motion that brings Megan to Kinsale, a small town in the south of Ireland where her destiny awaits her. Her life starts to fall into place as she makes new friends and settles into her new school. However, the reclusive and distant Adam DeRís calls to her body and soul.

She finds herself increasingly drawn to Adam and his strange family. Adam knows a secret from her past and he and his family hold the key to her future. A future that binds her to Adam and his world, a world of power, mystery and ancient orders. A world that unbeknownst to her, she very much belongs in.

It’s due out in September 2011. I love the cover too!

The other exciting news for me was on their blog about LJ Smith’s series, The Secret Circle, coming to the small screen. I read all of her books growing up and this was one of my favorite series. In fact, after re-reading both The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle as an adult The Secret Circle has surpassed The Vampire Diaries as my favorite series from Smith. So I cannot wait to see how the TV show works out.

The last tidbit for now is about their Delirium writing contest.  It sounds like fun and makes me wish I were a writer but alas that is not a talent I have been blessed with.  But if you like to write you can write a poem, essay, story, etc. for a chance to win a copy of Delirium and 3 other HarperTeen books from their catalog.  If you saw my review of Delirium you know it’s a book I think you should definitely check out.  So go enter the contest here.

I could continue to babble on but I’ll stop here and just tell you to go check it out for yourself.

I just wish that sites like this had been around when I was a teen. The best I had was’s “Original” section ( hadn’t even been created yet!), and a few early websites for a couple of pay-for-publishing sites. It’s awesome that the teens of today have way more options if they’re inclined toward writing.

I know. I’m glad YA writers have these resources these days.
