I give this book 3 out of 5 stars

Summary from It’s been three years since the devastating accident … three years since Mia walked out of Adam’s life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard’s rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia’s home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future – and each other.

I feel a little guilty that I am only giving this book 3 stars when everyone I talk to is raving about it and calling it a 5 star book.  Yes, I enjoyed it but it did not have the same impact on me that If I Stay did.  I absolutely loved If I Stay and I thought it ended perfectly so I was a little surprised when I heard that a sequel was coming out.  The writing style was still beautiful and you could really feel what the characters were feeling and it was like you were there experiencing their life first hand.

My main reason for not rating the book higher was Adam.  In If I Stay he was pretty much as close to my ideal guy as you could get without him seemly freakishly perfect.  I loved the way he supported Mia, was strong and yet still sensitive.  He seemed so comfortable with who he was.  In this one I found him almost unlikeable.  I get that he had his heart ripped out by Mia but the level of bitterness and how he let it affect him for so long seemed so absurd and childish that he was a disappointment to me.  I know a lot of his asshole moments are supposed to be because he is still feeling so tortured over how empty his life feels and that Mia left him is such a cruel way but it’s been a year so snap out of it.

The story did start coming together for me when he meets Mia again and they tentatively begin to reach out to each other.  The author handles their interaction so delicately that although the romantic side of me is hoping that they will get back together you are not really sure what will happen.  I felt the story really could go either way.  They could reconcile and live happily ever after, Adam could finally find his closure and move on or (not as likely) they have their angry face off and go their separate ways again.  While not a 5 star book for me I feel any If I Stay fans should still read this to find out what happens in the end.

I felt similar, so don’t feel guilty! I think that the fact that the books are two different genres doesn’t help matters…

I didn’t like it as much as If I Stay, but it did have as intense of an impact on me. I really wasn’t expecting that it would be able to touch me, so it really exceeded expectations where I was concerned :-).

Sorry that Adam didn’t quite work for you here!

I’m sorry that this one fell in the middle for you. You shouldn’t feel guilty though, you like what you like! If something in the story didn’t work for you then it makes sense that it’s not a 5-star read. :)
