Incorporating reading and play for kids

November 27th, 2011 by Debbie's World of Books

As my daughter has been getting older her enjoyment of books just seems to be growing much to my delight and we have started having activities and play dates to go along with some of the books she loves.  You can see some of the things we have been up to on my other blog Non-Creative Mom.  We’ve done Pinkalicious and Press Here play dates, Eight Spinning Planets water colors, I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean crafts, etc.

One thing I have found is the need to start supplementing our craft supplies and work space.  My 10+ year old Ikea coffee table and the 2 Ikea children’s chairs are just not cutting it as we have began to have other kids over.  So I was really excited when contacted me and let me know that they have quite a collection of chairs for kids, tables, craft supplies and pretty much everything I need for these activities my daughter and her friends love.

Chairs are probably my first priority since at the last play date we had kids fighting over who got to sit in which seats.  Here are a few I loved.  What do you think?

This one isn’t really practical for a play date but I can just imagine my daughter snuggling into it to read.

This one looks good for activities at the table.

Or I kind of like the bench idea although I wonder if the kids would bicker over which two get to sit here.

Or should I just go with a new table set?  I like this one and think the green is neutral enough for boys and girls. It would be in addition to our existing table and chairs so gives us more working space.

What about you?  Do your kids have a favorite spot/setup for reading and do you do craft/play dates related to their books?  How do you have your area set up?  If you had to pick which of the chairs or table would you pick?
