Top Ten Tuesday: Books You Want to Give as Gifts

December 12th, 2011 by Debbie's World of Books

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is-Top Ten Books I Want To Give As Gifts (and to who…even if you won’t actually give them!)

  1. If you missed my review of this book yesterday you have to check it out here!  I gave it 5 out of 5 stars and it was simply amazing.  I would love to get this book for one of my friends who first introduced me to the fantasy world with my first Mercedes Lackey book.
  2. This series ranks up there for me along with Harry Potter and has truly become a phenomena.  I recommend this series to everyone I know and it always amazes me when I meet someone whose never heard of it.  It makes me want to drag them to the bookstore right away and thrust a copy of it in their hands.
  3. As a follow up for #2 if they have read The Hunger Games and once we are done gushing about it I would recommend Divergent by Veronica Roth because I know they will love it just as much.
  4. I would love to get either Dead of Night or Rot and Ruin (or both!) by Jonathan Maberry into as many hands as I could.  I feel like a lot of people lump zombie books into mindless stories filled with just gore and mindless action but Maberry has a way of writing the characters and stories that make you truly invested in what is going on.  He is probably the only author I know that managed to make me cry while reading a zombie book.
  5. I would want to give Gone With the Wind to all those people who were like me and have had this book on their to be read list for years.  I think I was in high school when I first thought to myself I should read this book and it took me until the end of last year to finally sit down and read it thanks to a readalong with one of my book clubs.  It was such an amazing read despite being written so long ago.
  6. I recommend Press Here by Herve Tullet to all of my friends with kids and even hosted a Press Here play date. The concept is so simple and yet it amazes my daughter and she loves reading it over and over.  I love that it gets her involved in the book as she has to press dots, tilt the book, shake the book, etc and the ending always makes her laugh.
  7. Rather than a particular book I would want to buy a Mo Willems book for anyone who has little kids.  My four year old and I read a Mo Willems book at least every other day and usually more often.  Even my 16 month old gets into it and cracks everyone up because he just loves saying “aaachooo!” after reading Pigs Make Me Sneeze so often.  Our favorite Piggie & Gerald books are:

What are some books you would want to give as gifts this year?

I would give Divergent to a few friends for sure. I loved it and I can’t wait for the next book.

I was looking for a book to follow The Hunger Games for a nephew. I have now found it, I believe, thanks to you!

Great list! I am planning to buy Touch of Power for myself for Christmas. :)

I haven’t read many of these but I wholeheartedly agree on Hunger Games and Divergent.
