Summary from What if there were teens whose lives depended on being bad influences? This is life for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil.

Tenderhearted Southern girl, Anna Whitt, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage, and her will-power is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

A cross-country trip to meet her father forces Anna to face the reality that hope and love are not options for her kind. When she confronts her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

This book came as a shocker to me in that I am head over heels in love with it.  The cover grabbed me initially but when I read the synopsis and saw that it was an angel book I was a little leery since I’m not a huge fan of angel books other than Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly series.  I had borrowed it from a friend and needed to get it back to her so I made myself pick it up and if you read my Top Ten Tuesday post you saw that I felt like this was one book you want to read all in one day.

Anna was an interesting character in that she is portrayed as the goody goody girl who doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, etc. and could have come across as rather boring.  Instead she has this darker undercurrent to her personality that will intrigue the reader and makes her likeable in that everyone can relate to these impulses Anna struggles to deny.  But as much as I enjoyed Anna’s character I am all about Kaidan!

He has officially taken over the top spot in my heart for dreamy, tortured, bad boy book guys.  Being the son of the demon of Lust it’s not surprising he is sexy as hell (no pun intended) but I fell in love with him watching as he falls for Anna and struggles with what he was raised to do versus what he WANTS to do.  The story around who the Nephilim are and how this molds each of the Nephilim we meet makes each of them so complex that each one draws you in and want to learn more about their lives and what is going on inside their heads.  Being the offspring of demons doesn’t necessarily make them evil but they are forced to spread their brand of sin whether they like it or not.  Hearing how Kaidan was raised broke my heart and just made me fall for him even more so.  I’ll admit it also doesn’t hurt that I was picturing the dreamy Ian Somerhalder as Kaidan:

Ian Somerhalder (Damon The Vampire Diaries)

As much as I could keep on gushing about Kaidan the story is also incredible.  The world building around the demons history, the relationships between the demons and their Nephilim offspring and what role Anna will play in the inevitable show down was unbelievably rich and well thought out.  I am also happy to see that for the most part this story is love triangle free!  Yes, it has finally happened that the heroine can have a male best friend who is not secretly in love with her and there isn’t a good guy and bad boy that the heroine flits back and forth bemoaning how hard life is.  Yes, there is a brief attraction to another guy but it’s obvious where Anna’s heart truly lies.

I know I have been having a good couple months of reading and gushing about books but I am serious when I say you must read this book!

As I gushed over how in love I was with this book on Twitter I was bowled over to hear that the sequel has not been bought yet.  I am hoping it is just a matter of time because I would cry if I don’t get to read the next book.  HarperTeen and I are going to have serious issues if they don’t move forward with this series.
