Summary from Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City–and she is pos-i-toot-ly thrilled. New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult–also known as “The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies.”
When a rash of occult-based murders comes to light, Evie and her uncle are right in the thick of the investigation. And through it all, Evie has a secret: a mysterious power that could help catch the killer–if he doesn’t catch her first.

I am not normally a fan of books that take place in the flapper era so that accounts for this not quite being a 4 star book so if you enjoy that era this is a book for you.

I am not a huge fan of Evie but she along with all the other characters are so well fleshed out that I became immersed in each of their own situations and biting my nails wondering if they will all make it through until the end of the book.  My favorite character is probably Sam or Memphis.  Both of them have this facade they put in place for the world to see that seems carefree but there are some hidden depths to them I can’t wait to learn more about.  The villain definitely creeped me out and reminds me of those horror movies I can’t stand watching because they give me the chills.

The story itself dragged in some places but overall it totally gave me goosebumps as I read.  My main issue with it was the pacing was so steady (through almost 600 pages!) and then the ending seemed so rushed.  I can’t wait for the next book to see what will happen with Sam and Memphis!
