Summary from A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay

When sheltered American good girl Allyson “LuLu” Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Gayle Forman is an amazing writer and If I Stay literally brought me to tears so when I saw this one I had to have it.  While a completely different type of story Just One Day still drew me in and kept me engrossed until the very last page.  In fact, when it ended I was so sad and was desperate for more.  Happily I saw there will be a companion novel!! Woohoo!  But back to this one…

I love Allyson’s character.  She is so easy to relate to because I think she embodies the characteristics many of us have.  I wish I had the guts to really let go and live life to the fullest without having to have every step planned out.  I’ve always tried to live up to everyone’s expectations of me that I never really figured out what I want for myself.

Allyson’s journey will make you laugh, cringe and cheer as you follow her search for Willem and to find closure after their disastrous parting.  If you have not read Gayle Forman’s books yet you really need to go out immediately and do so!
