Waiting on Wednesday: Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

July 30th, 2013 by Debbie's World of Books

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly event, hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My pick for this week is Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

It is due out September 10, 2013.

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

Summary from Old Gods never die…

Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.

Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.

These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.

Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.

Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.

The Goddess War is about to begin.

What an odd story. I’ve never heard of it. A refreshing choice. Thanks!

I kind of don’t like the sound of this one but I know that a lot of people really want to read it. I hope you enjoy reading it too.

Sounds like a really unique and interesting read. And the writing seems very poetic, and it’s only a blurb! Here’s my WoW:

I LOVED Blake’s other series so I am very excited for her new book, especially since it is about mythology!

Very interesting. Sounds like it could be quite a creative twist on the usual deity-related stories that are on the shelves right now. I’ll have to remember to take a look for this one when it’s released.

I actually got an early copy of this and was sad that I didn’t love it-I prefer Blake’s ghost stories but hope you love this one!
