Summary from He won’t hesitate to put his life on the line…but will he ever risk his heart?

Falling for Justice Garrett was a high point in Patience McGraw’s otherwise awkward adolescence. Even after he disappeared, Patience never forgot the boy who captured her heart. Now, he’s back in Fool’s Gold, California, and her passion for him is as strong as ever. But how can she trust that he won’t abandon her again-and her daughter, too?

When bodyguard Justice Garrett was a young man, witness protection brought him to this idyllic town and he never forgot its warmth, or the sweet beauty of his childhood friend. He’s returned to open a defense academy, and the Patience he once knew is all grown up. He can’t resist her smile, or her curves. But Justice’s past doesn’t make him husband, or father, material.

Patience and Justice think they’ll succumb to just one kiss… Then one more… Okay, just one night together. But they might learn that falling in love is beyond anyone’s control.

I simply adore Susan Mallery and her Fool’s Gold series.  I sometimes worry it would suffer from the fact that I am reading the books in whatever order I can get my hands on the books from the library instead of the order they are in the series.  However, it has not diminished my love of the series at all so far.  The only minor thing that I have noticed was Felicia was introduced in this book and for the first time I actually did not mind her.  Maybe because she didn’t play a huge part or maybe because now I know more about why she is the way she is but her android-like personality wasn’t quite so grating.

That aside I love Patience and Justice!  Ok, it was a little skeevy that he was an 18 year old lusting after a 14 year old girl at one point but he never did anything about it.  Now he’s back and boy is he hero material.  I love how he is not just with Patience but also with her daughter, mother and friends.  Patience is the kind of person I wish I could be.  She’s sweet, a great mother and daughter, smart and has enough drive to start up her own business.  What more could you really ask for?

The humor and supporting characters that make up the rest of the Fool’s Gold community is ever present and just makes the story that much more enjoyable as usual.  I love watching Patience and Justice rediscover what could have been if circumstances hadn’t interrupted their lives years ago.  All in all another great addition to the Fool’s Gold series.
