About the book:

I never believed in ghosts. Until one tried to kill me.

When Kennedy Waters finds her mother dead, her world begins to unravel. She doesn’t know that paranormal forces in a much darker world are the ones pulling the strings. Not until identical twins Jared and Lukas Lockhart break into Kennedy’s room and destroy a dangerous spirit sent to kill her. The brothers reveal that her mother was part of an ancient secret society responsible for protecting the world from a vengeful demon — a society whose five members were all murdered on the same night.

Now Kennedy has to take her mother’s place in the Legion if she wants to uncover the truth and stay alive. Along with new Legion members Priest and Alara, the teens race to find the only weapon that might be able to destroy the demon — battling the deadly spirits he controls every step of the way.

Suspense, romance, and the paranormal meet in this chilling urban fantasy, the first book in a new series from Kami Garcia, bestselling coauthor of the Beautiful Creatures novels.

My Review

Initially I passed over this book because the cover turned me off but then I saw it was written by Kami Garcia so I had to read it. This book is the perfect example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. I was drawn in from beginning to end!

If you are a fan of the TV series Supernatural then you definitely will want to pick this one up. I loved that show and this book has a similar feel to it including a sexy pair of brothers. I am already in love with Jared and once I found out the reason for the tension between Jared and Lukas I felt so bad for Jared and I just wanted to wrap him in a big, squeezy hug.

Then we have Kennedy. I have mixed feelings about her. When she first joins up with the other Legion members she is considered as a liability by some and she truly is. So much so I found it a bit irritating and yet I feel like it almost makes her more real because I know I wouldn’t do much better in her spot but I wish she weren’t so whiny. My other issue with her was how quickly she fell for Jared. Don’t get me wrong, I think both brothers are sexy and my heart went out to Jared but it was like she fell for him with no basis for the attraction almost upon meeting him. Forget that Lukas was the sweetheart to her. She had to go with the moody, brooding brother. I suppose it must be that attraction to bad boys that a lot of women have.

The story itself was fast moving and like I said I was totally sucked in. I cannot wait for Unmarked to come out!
