Stealing the Bachelor by Sonya Weiss (Stealing the Heart #3 – Can be read as a standalone)

Release date: January 11, 2016

About the book:

Having missed out on the “drop-dead-gorgeous” gene in her family, Ann Snyder decides to kick a little butt in the business world instead. That is, until her skeezy manager’s “side business” has the FDA raiding her chocolate shop. Now Ann’s in huge trouble…and the only person who can help her is the adorkable guy who completely humiliated her in high school.

Lawyer Eric Maxwell has been in love with Ann as long as he can remember. He figured he never stood a chance—don’t the beautiful girls always prefer the bad boys to the nerds? So he makes Ann a deal. He’ll provide her with free legal services…if she’ll move in and help him transform him from nerd-without-a-clue to bona fide bad boy.

And once the transition is complete, all he has to do is prove that he’s the only bachelor for her…

Ann unlocked the shop and stepped in. Eric closed the door behind them, and instantly, they were surrounded by silence. Though she wasn’t showing it, being in the shop, seeing it this way, had to hurt, and that made his heart ache.

She set her purse down on the counter. “There are probably enough chocolates for several dozen bags. We can each take one, and I’ll give the others away. I can take some to the diner and some to—“ Her voice ended on a broken note.

Unable to stop himself, Eric walked up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders. “I swear that I’ll fight with every breath I have to make this right for you.” He was going to offer her comfort with his words and nothing more, but his game plan changed when she turned around in his arms. The tears tracking down her face were his undoing.

“Ann.” His voice was barely above a whisper. He tightened his grip, not pulling her to him or pushing her away, leaving the next move up to her. His heart beat faster and his mouth went dry when she leaned into him, letting her head come to rest against his chest.

Raising his hand, he rested it on the back of her hair, gently stroking. She lifted her arms and slowly wrapped them around his waist. Wanting her, but not able to have her, was the sweetest agony, but he knew better than to make a move.

She lifted her head and leaned back so that she could look into his eyes. “Kiss me.”

His eyes widened. “Do you realize what you just asked me?”

“Yes.” She lowered her gaze, and a hesitant smile crossed her lips. “I didn’t think…I mean, if you don’t want to, that’s fine.”

Sliding his fingers beneath her chin, he tilted her face up to his. “I have never wanted anything more than to kiss you.”

She looked surprised by that. “But?”

“Here in the shop, the emotions and thoughts have to be running rampant through you right now. I don’t want to be your caught-in-the-moment mistake.” He smoothed her hair away from her eyes. “Ask me again when your heart isn’t overwhelmed.”

Ann pulled away, a flush creeping up her face. “What makes you think I’ll ask again?”

His heart skipped. “Because you’re my Lois Lane. You won’t be able to help yourself.”
