About the Book:

This whole grim reaper thing should have come with a manual.
Or a diagram of some kind.
A flow chart would have been nice.

Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (like murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can’t she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?

With scorching-hot tension and high-octane humor, First Grave on the Right is your signpost to paranormal suspense of the highest order.

My Review:

I’ve heard a lot about Darynda Jones and a friend of my raves at how funny her books are. So when I had a little bit of breathing room in my reading schedule I decided to give it a try.

I will say it had me laughing a lot through out the book though at times I felt like Charley’s attitude was a tad over done. Still overall I like Charley and liked that for the most part she’s a strong, independent woman. Throughout the book we get glimpses that she does have quite a few issues hiding underneath her brashness but that makes her all the more likeable and intriguing.

There’s also some romantic vibes and sheer sexy times going on throughout the book and I was aching to see those relationships progress a little faster. I know this is a long series so this was setting up a lot of different sub-plots so I can’t wait to see each develop. I will say I didn’t see the whole Reyes thing coming and it threw me for a loop. Definitely a solid start to the series and I can’t wait to read more. I just hope Charley’s character mellows just a smidge. A tiny smidge but a smidge nonetheless.

The storyline itself was interesting and did a lot of world building and introducing some great supporting characters. Definitely will be checking the rest of the series out.
